You tell him! You are your own best advocate. You know YOU. Hope you figure it out.

My gallstones were discovered two years ago during an x-ray for my back-pain. They followed up with an ultrasound that confirmed it. I had never had an attack. They wanted to remove my gallbladder then but I decided to wait to see if it became an issue after learning that you can have stones for years with no trouble. A year later I had my one and only attack - terrible pain that lasted 8-10 hours and sent me to the ER thinking I was dying. Even then I put it off. Both my daughters had theirs removed that summer and I was too busy to idea with something that, in myself, I considered a non-emergency. My doctor said it's hereditary through females. Last January I had actually scheduled an appointment w/a surgeon to remove my gallbladder when, feeling depressed and suffering back pain, I decided on WLS surgery. I made that my priority and put gallbladder removal on the back burner. My surgeon wouldn't combine two procedures because of increased risk of complications. This fall I decided to finally have my gallbladder out. Why not? I was fully healed fro my rny, I'd lost 93 pounds (that had to be better for surgery), I had sick days left, and my deductible for the year was already met. So last Friday I had my gallbladder removed - finally! I thought it would be a piece of cake after rny, where they rerouted your whole insides. But no! Gallbladder surgery was much more pain full! A week later it still hurts but it's finally getting tolerable. Back to work tomorrow. I was actually considering getting the skin removed from my belly in a year or two but now I'm thinking maybe not. I've had enough of surgery - I think I'm done!!!!

Oh wow! Can't believe you waited! I'm at the point where my OOP max is met for the year and if I'm going to end up needing it done I'd rather get it done now. The pain for me was more like contractions but in my side instead of in utero. He said I probably pulled a muscle and put me off work another week. I was believing that until it slowed down and picked back up when I drank of tried to eat. That doesn't seem like muscle spasms to me. Now I've texted his receptionist (a friend of mine) and requested a test on my gallbladder and haven't heard anything back. The sharp pains have stopped but it hurts when I press on the area on my body. I can't afford to make trips to ER to validate my belief.

I'm having my gallbaldder taken out this upcoming Friday the 20th. It'll be one day before my birthday, and 7 months minus a day since my VSG. I have ultrasound pics. My bile duct is nearly blocked and half of my gallbladder. I've had this horrible pain since the end of July, but we didn't know what it was until the week before Thanksgiving when I could finally get in to see my doctor, because they kept rescheduling me. It's horrible. I am living of Dycicolmin or however you spell it. I had gallbladder problems years ago, like 16 years ago. There are days where I am on the floor crying in pain in a ball. Nothing is comfortable. I throw up bile every day, and I have this insane gas even if I don't eay, I burp. I have no idea where it's coming from. The only things that are somewhat okay are popsicles and ice cream broth and mashed potatoes. Maybe cause it just goes right through?

I'm really worried about this surgery because every time I have surgery, I under estimate it, and it's worse than the one before. Ialso have several auto immune disorders, so things are a lot worse for some reason. I'm also a clotter too. So far, in no particular order I've had;

DVT Thigh - 120 day hospital stay.

Tubal Lit - 4 day hospital stay.

Hysto - 24 hour hospital stay - stayed in bed 2 weeks, miserable a good 6

Endo/Adheisens - outpaitent - discomfort for 3 days

VSG - 3 day hospital stay, bed for 5 weeks, back in hospi due to dehydration

Kidney Stones - 4 day hospital stay

Two live births, with a 1 week stay for one of them, and a 60 day stay for another.

I had mine out on the 6th. I was thinking it would be a price of cake but it wasn't. I thought it was worse than RNY as far as pain went. I had very intense pain under my ribs on my right side. I took a week off from work and by the fifth day I was seriously wondering if I'd be able to go back a planned. I still needed the Percocets. But by the sixth day things improved a lot and I was able to switch from Percoets to Tylenol. By the seventh day I was starting to feel pretty good - more like myself. When I went back to work the first day I worked a full eight hour day, then went home and crashed on the couch for four hours (which backfired on me - I couldn't fall asleep again til 2am). The next day (yesterday) was more like normal. I worked a half day, picked up my Christmas tree, went Christmas and grocery shopping in the snow, and didn't get home till 8:30pm. I felt fine. Good luck to you - you'll do fine! :-)

I just had mine out on the 12th still in lots of pain from surgery. I knew I had to haven't out because I would get extreme pain on my right side under my ribs that would feel like a heart attack I had an ultrasound that showed numerous stones so the decided to take it out. I still have pain in the center of my chest and I'm really hoping it's not something else.

Don't be scared! You'll be fine! I had no problems, I was just expecting it to be easy. I was unrealistic. :-)

Mine was outpatient. I had to be at the hospital by 10am. The doctor got tied up with the patient before me so they didn't take me till noon. I left the hospital by 4pm. It took a little longer because he found a hernia and repaired it. It's not really as bad as it sounds. For me the RNY was really a piece of cake so I was expecting more of the same. Five days of discomfort, pain controlled w/meds (no trouble sleeping), back to normal in 6-7 days. I can even sleep on that side with no pain. My only restriction is I can't lift anything over 10 pounds for a few weeks.

Thank you all for your help. I'm really glad I posted here. I was doubting my choice to go forward with the surgery on the 20th, due to Christmas and my birthday. My birthday is 12/21 and we were planning on going across country to go home and be with family for Christmas. The doctor told me no traveling, even if it's driving, after the surgery. The only other time is to do it on Jan10th, which is 3 days before class starts. And I definitly don't want to repeate what I went through with the VSG, having surgery a week before classes. But it's crappy to spend birthday in the hospital and Christmas too, leaving my family alone for Christmas. But I feel like I made the right choice.

Okay, so I another question, and I'm trying to figure out if it is gallbladder related.

Everything taste like salt. I never cooked or used salt prior to surgery because I cannot stand the taste. Now, even drinking a Protein shake, there's a strong salt taste. Another problem I've had is chocolate. Before surgery I never ate chocolate. It tasted icky to me, and the caffien in the chocolate gives me migrains (I'm allergic to caffien). Now, I can't get enough of it, and I don't know why. I still don't like the taste, but my body is craving it, mostly dark chocolate too. I almost feel like I'm having cravings as if I were pregnant. But I'm not because I had the hysto a few years ago. I have had a couple epitopic pregnancies, and they kind of take care of themselves. But either way, the cravings are so strong that if I don't address them I will get really irritable, and mad and it's not good.

I've noticed these two issues only since I started having the gallbladder problems. I'm wondering if it could be related? Has anyone else had weird tastes issues with their gallbladder issues? It doesn't matter if I pull out a piece of romain lettuce and eat it raw, it'll taste like salt.

I'm also having days where I pee and pee and pee. And I don't know why. I do take in enough fluids, probably more than what most people are. But I still can't drink plain Water. It upsets my stomach bad. So I add crystal light or the propel fitness stuff.

Am I the only one having these wierd food problems? The doctor said my tastes would change, and I'd want to eat stuff I didn't like or eat before, and the I'd not eat stuff that I use to like. I also still, cannot eat bread. Even a bite and it's instantly coming up

Sometimes the salty thing could be a side effect of medication but it's most commonly a sign of dehydration.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
