I know exactly what you mean, so here's my example from a few weeks ago. Same day, same outfit, but the angle makes all the difference. When I saw the second one my friend took & posted all I could think about was how ginormous my ass still is. I'm pretty sure that even if I lose another 50 or 60 lbs I'll still be carrying enough junk for me & 2 others. :P

Welll a nice booty is a good thing to have :-P thanks for posting:)

Hey there, Redbean...You have had such great success - 53 pounds is amazing. Please don't put value in some crappy Thanksgiving day photo. I am not sure I have every liked a pic taken of me - at any weight. Keep your chin up and be proud of what you've accomplished and look forward to the future. I'm going to copy your signature here - read it until you believe it! :-) Your present circumstances don't determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start. ~Nido Qubein

YES!!! Thank you for the reminder!!!

I think you looked fantastic!! I also think that seeing pictures of ourselves take some time to accept. We have spent so many years not even letting someone take a picture and loathing the pictures that they managed to take that we just automatically shut down a good picture because of what we are so used to seeing in our minds. We can't even see the good picture staring us in the face. I also agree that angles and bad photographers play a major part in the pictures we are looking at. Be happy because I think you look amazing! You have come a long way! :)

Awww Thank you!

Your weight loss is fantastic, but it often happens so fast our brains can't keep up. I'm fat. When I was a teenager I was stick thin and thought I was fat. I think it doesn't matter what size I am ill always be fat. But unfortunately what I through my eyes isn't reality. You're doing great and you liik great.

Redbean,

First, you've lost a lot of weight. In an absolute sense, you KNOW you look better than you used to.

Second, cameras (not just the movies) add at least 10 pounds.

Third, unless you're 15 years old you have NO idea how to pose for a photograph to look your best. And if your sister was snapping a candid photo of you (with no chance to arrange yourself), you were sandbagged.

Fourth, is there any chance the photograph was taken with you on the EDGE of the photograph, and not in the center of the photograph? If so, did you know that many cameras exaggerate the width of figures on the edges of the photograph? It produces a funky wide-angle effect. That might not be the case, but it sure could be. This article describes the problems: http://gizmodo.com/5661253/giz-explains-why-you-look-different-in-photos-than-you-do-in-the-mirror

A picture might or might not be worth a thousand words. But don't let it cost you a thousand tears, because your body needs the hydration. :)

It was definitely a candid photo, not centered at all. It is just disheartening to see a funky shot when I was feeling sooo much better about myself...but I have cried and everyone has made me feel so much better. I love the support here! :)

You know what I think...i think there just might be a little bit of envy there..If she does not respect your plea to remove the photo..I would ask her why your feelings don't mean anything to her....Ornery..no! A tad afraid and maybe a bit jealous..Sisters eh..I have one or 5 like her.....chin up!

I actually kinda think she may be a lil envious, although idk why she's always been smaller than me. We have same dad, different mothers and I know her mother always compares us, tells her she needs to be like me, I have a good life, blah, blah, blah...maybe that's why?! (Btw, there isn't a whole lot of love/like between her mom and me; her mom just likes to start mess!!)

I'm scared to think of taking other photos!! I thought I wouldn't mind so much this time...I was sadly mistaken. I will do my best not to dwell on it, it was just such a wake up call that I have sooo much more to go.

this is quite normal to see yourself as still being fat. It's an illusion and plus the cameras always adds about 10 lbs. keep the pic as a marker for your weight loss bc when you get to your goal weight you can place the pics next to each other and you will see the difference. Good job on your loss of 53 lbs. :P

There is nothing more painful then competition between siblings..Mine was with my mother..she always wanted to show me she was better then me in everything...Now it has been with a sister of mine too..I have not played the game with her..It is her problem not mine..But it has caused some real pain in my life over the last several years and my children do not have anything to do with her family at all....

So go one little one and pretend that she can't get to you...Write under the photo that you are hurt that she would post such a picture of you and then say...I would never do that to you...I guess my feelings don't count because if they did you would remove it..Then everyone who looks at the photo will know you asked and that she did not care enough to remove it because you did not like it..she will look the bad one and not you......

Doesn't matter anyway..I personally think you are fabulous darling.....

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
