December 2013 Sleevers This Is Our Month Are Yall Ready!?

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I had surgery on 12/12/13. I was very scared and in pain. I think it had more to do with the being put under part. Still have pain. Glad I did it. Just wondering when the pain subsides I'm trying to not take the pain meds. I came home yesterday.

Good luck I'm waiting for my pain to subside as well --- same dec 12 surg date and hospital release date as you?!

Hello,

My sugary is tomorrow, 12/16. I'm doing my clear liquid diet today. So far, it's OK, but I'm only on my second cup of liquids. I'm nervous and a little scared, but I'm a nurse so I know what to expect. I guess I just have a better understanding of what patients who are going to have surgery are going through. Today I will just reflect and pray as I know my life will change drastically tomorrow. Thank you all for the interesting blogs…..it helps to read other's stories to know one is not alone!

I'm tomorrow too. Also doing clears. Except for a couple of times, reaching for stuff, I'm doing well. Had a big emotional breakdown while ago. Scared sure. But mostly I think, mourning certain aspects of life and hoping this is the best decision of my life. But the excitement is setting in. I'm starting to look forward to a new, healthier, and less pain me. Also a nurse. I'm still sore from my last shift yesterday. Hoping when I start back, I can do without so much pain from being on my feet 12 + hours! Welcome to the forums and good luck!

Seems to be several of us nurses here, I'm also a little scared. Not about the surgery but about the after care. My husband and I are being sleeved on the same day. The kids are grown and out of the house. So a little worried about taking care of both of us after wards.

I am also a nurse. How long are you taking off of work? I work in a procedural area.

Dr's office only giving me 4 wks, will talk to them again at postoperative visit. Would have liked 6 wks with option to return early.

Well, I've been able to care for myself just fine after getting home. My husband is here, and would do anything I ask, but figure he is doing well keeping himself fed without my cooking almost everything. Oh...he did put up the clean dishes...pulled my tummy to keep reaching into cupboards. You just need plenty of spoons and glasses...nothing to put on plates for awhile. Bet you will be just fine!

Cool. Yeah pain is better I'm just trying to get used to the meds and adding the Protein and all the fluids. Pre surgery it seemed like it was gonna be easy. But it really is a full time job to take in all the fluids and meds and Protein. For the record I really feel like telling everyone that thinks surgery is an easy way out...it's not!! Lol :)

I agree; it's def a really tough lifelong decision to make. I'm only required to do Clear Liquids for a week after surgery plus Multivitamin ----- next week I get to start full liquids including Protein Shakes and Calcium pills

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
