First Restaurant Experience And When?!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! Although I've been "stalking" this website for months now and gathering great info, this is my first time posting on here! Just a few days ago, I was FINALLY given a surgery date of December 17th! Talk about coming down to the wire, since I would no longer be covered on my work insurance starting January 1st. Woohoo!!! This has been a long 6 months of waiting so the time is finally here!

Anyway, months ago, we scheduled a one night trip with another couple (our closest friends, so you can see where this is going...) and are supposed to go out for a nice dinner that night/breakfast in the am before we head home. I will be 11 days post op and I am choosing not to tell anyone but my husband and mother about this surgery (to each his/her own), so telling them is not an option. We made reservations months ago to this Italian restaurant. I would bail on the trip if we had not already purchased very expensive concert tickets and our friends would be crushed. Sooo... I'm in need of some advice. I'm thinking of using the stomach flu as my excuse since we live out of state and won't see these friends for months after this trip. Any suggestions/thoughts/concerns/things I have maybe overlooked? Anything is appreciated!

Yes the best you can do is say you are recovering from some gastrointestinal issues..

Because most likely you will still be on a liquid diet.. Also warn your husband that you may get tired easily or not even feel up to all the activities. I would have plan b in case you have a hard recovery :)

Thank you, Laura! That is exactly what I will do then for my excuse. I've pulled up the restaurant menu and can just order a broth type of Soup. Luckily, we will get there after lunch (get to skip that meal with them), concert will be a sit-down deal and pretty relaxing (orchestra), and then just back to the hotel, so I'm hoping things will go smoothly. My Plan B is that I stay home and send my husband alone so that they aren't too terribly upset that we bailed.

On a side note- Laura, I just wanted to let you know that I've read several of your posts over the past 6 months and you give great advice to others on here! Much appreciated :)

Dreamscometrue,

If you are on soft foods, you may be able to eat some fish or some of the ricotta cheese from lasagna. Just make sure you follow your doctor's rules for the phase you are in at the time. If you can't eat anything, then as Laura said, "you can say your stomach is upset."

Good luck with your surgery, and am happy you got it scheduled while you still have coverage.

:D

It sounds like you are pretty prepared,

Hopefully it will be an easy recovery for you and plan B is an non issue.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
