Recommended Posts

I am meeting with my surgeon tomorrow and then I will know my date. Depending on how long my preop diet will be and he does his surgeries on Wednesdays. ...I would hope the 22nd but it could be the 29th. Eekk...super excited and nervous all at once.

My surgery was yesterday! Today is really the first day of my new life! I'm feeling ok. Slept well in spite of every 2 hour vitals check. I have a button I can push for pain medicine - it's great. Today (hopefully ASAP) I'll have a test for leaks and I can finally start sipping water! I'll be in here until tomorrow.

I had my surgery on Tuesday. I had my leak test yesterday and now I can sip Water and eat Jello, but it hurts like hell. I still have a lot of pain and the gas seems to want to stick around and keep me miserable. I hope you have a speedy recovery. I'm hoping I'm out of here by tomorrow.

Walk, walk, walk. That will get the gas down. Also get gas x strips.

At my pre-op appointment 2 days ago they ordered a sleep study. It seemed kinda sudden, considering I have probably had a dozen visits to get ready this fall, and surgery is in 5 days. Me and my jammies were headed to the hospital tonight for the sleep-over when they called and said insurance had not approved it - so the sleep study is canceled. They said it will not delay my surgery; we're still on for Tuesday. I don't think I have sleep apnea anyway, although 17 pounds ago I might have. :)

Also - it's day 8 of the pre-op diet and it's so much easier! 1000 calories seems like plenty now. And the headaches are gone.

OK - now I am going for a walk!!

I had my surgery January 6th at tufts medical center in Boston MA. Everything has gone smooth so far. I came home from the hospital yesterday 1/8/14. I was 217 1/3 weighed in today 1/9 and I was 210.2. I have been very full. Today I had a carnation instant Breakfast with 8 oz skim milk, a small Decaf coffee with skim, and some diet cran grape juice for breakfast. lunch time I had a Dannon light Greek cherry yogurt. That has 12 grams of Protein. dinner I had 1/2 c low fat cottage cheese (I couldn't quite finish it) I also sipped on 16 ounces of Water with crystal light throughout the day. Tomorrow I will work on drinking more Fluid. I did some walking today. Was shopping at Home Depot with my hubby. Feeling really good. The incision sights are sore, but I am taking my pain pills to it isn't too bad. I am not even tempted to eat anything I shouldn't have. I am 39 and have 3 kids 19, 12, and 9. My mother is staying with me and helping so I can rest and not have to cook for everyone just yet. So excited to start this journey. Now when it start getting smaller sizes I won't be too nervous to give away the big clothes. In fear I may need them again later.

I had my sleeve done on Wednesday (8 January) and came home on Thursday, after my leak test and after sipping liquids and proving to the nurses I could urinate on my own. (Sorry for the TMI.) I'm still pretty sore. Taking my pain meds every four hours as prescribed.

I've been walking as much as I can stand to; my mom walks with me around the cul-de-sac my parents live on, although I don't walk very fast yet.

I haven't been hungry, but I've eaten a little Jell-O and some applesauce to carry certain medications that I can't swallow whole.

I feel pretty good, all things considered.

I hope everybody else has as easy a time as I'm having so far.

Not to bad!!! If I move around to much my tiny tummy hurts Sort of like spasms. I have been sleeping a lot!!! Keeping fluids down. And ambulating with out prob. My incision sites are not sore at all. My husband seems to be feeling better than I am.

Hope you are feeling a little better by the time you read this. Would love to know more about how you feel as the days progress. I am curious about your recovery because I have 2 children at home and I want to know how quickly you start to feel yourself again. I know everyone is different so I have been asking around to get a general consensus. :)

How do the pain meds make you feel besides taking the pain away? Do you feel any nausea from them? Do they feel ok going down? :)

I'm a bit loopy from the pain meds; my surgeon put me on liquid Dilaudid, because I'm allergic to hydrocodone (Lortab, Vicodin) and oxycodone (Percocet, Tylox). I certainly wouldn't dare drive until I'm off the pain meds. I'm not usually nauseated. I woke up this morning with a touch of nausea, but I just sat still until it went away. The medication does feel okay going down because it's liquid; it doesn't taste great but it doesn't taste horrible either.

What really tastes horrible is one of my regular meds; it's too big to swallow whole, so I have to crush it and it makes a bitter tasting powder. Yuk! (It's Wellbutrin, for the curious.)

That's great to hear AZdesertrose76! Have you done the leak test yet? I was loopy also, and a bit nauseous. Luckily no vomiting, that would have been painful to say the least. Dilaudid does wonders doesn't it! I felt nothing after they gave me that :). Did they offer you the patch behind your ear? I'm on day four, still store, but once I take my pain meds I can get comfortable. Did they give you a drain? Hopefully you will be able to sleep. I think my longest sleep stretch was 3 hours... still haven't Been able to sleep a full stretch yet. Can't wait until I can sleep on my stomach! Hoping for a pain free evening for you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
