One Year + And Hair Loss- Help!

Recommended Posts

I am one year out and have reached goal losing 85 pounds. I'm 52 years old . Though I am very happy about that, but one problem that bothers me so much is Hair loss. Has anyone else experienced this. I am taking Biotin. I eat a well balanced diet in my opinion. Lots of Protein etc. I am seeing the hair loss by the day now and have probably lost 50% of my hair. That's how it feels to me anyway. I mentioned this to the dr and they told me it's common and it will grow back etc. I have had blood work done and they tell me everything is ok. I don't look like everythging is ok. I am so stressed over this. My husband found me crying in the bathroom this morning. It has robbed me of the joy I had in losing all this weight. I am hopeing the Dr is right. Any thoughts on this problem?

I am with you on this problem! Also taking Biotin and getting plenty of Protein. I have blamed it on anesthesia during two small surgeries I have had this past year. (one on a sore hammer toe and on a broken wrist from a fall on the sidewalk.) I also was told it would grow back. I don't feel I can get a perm as maybe the harsh solution would make it all fall out.

I've read during this past year of many others having this problem. . . . what is the solution?

:(

Same here joy....90 lbs. down and my hair has gotten very thin as well. I've been told the same as you...it will grow back. I too am using Biotin and drinking powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury to get in more Protein. I just got back from the salon as a matter of fact and my hairdresser 'tweaked' my style to cover more of the thinning areas. He also said not to stress and that it will come back but like you, I've looked in the mirror and cried. All I can do is hope they are right. I've been waiting for my hair to grow back for at least four months now and it's not happening yet.

i had a huge back surgery 2 years ago and then the lap band last year. Could this be the reason for the severe hair loss. And I dont mean a little thinner, I mean extremely thin. Alarmingly thin hair. Very upseting:( Would love to hear from others who had this issue but it got better. Anybody??

Im just so sorry that you are going through this. I know how important my hair is to me, to make me feel more feminine. I really feel for you. but, i think that i agree with the drs.. it will grow back. You have lost a lot of weight. Your body has gone through some tremendous changes . Hair loss often happens with huge body changes. you are young, if you are having a healthy diet. ( and only you know the whole story about that) then there is no reason why your hair won't be replaced in time. How do you wear your hair at the moment? is it long or short or in-between? perhaps a hairstyle that will help to hide this temporary hiccup will be the answer. Im positive though…. it WILL GROW BACK. Please try not to get too upset about it all…. just use your imagine and work around it for the time being. Let us know how you go. You could try taking Hair, nails and skin Vitamins as well… they help to target the hair, skin and nails. Incidently, whats happening with your nails? are they soft, brittle? break easily?...

i haven't had this problem but at times my hair has been something i prefer to hide. Have you girls tried using a really nice head band? not a scarf but a wide band, about three inches wide. i have one. How i made this up… i bought a length of banding which is normally used for sewing Tshirts etc…. the band material is very elastic. So, i bought a metre. Then i made up a wide black band from this material. That would be twenty years ago? i made it so that i could wind it twice around my head. It makes a really effective hair band, and with some stronger makeup and earrings it looks great . I think this would help while you are going through the process of Hair loss and restoration. ive never had a bad day with mine… even though my hair doesnt fall out, it still looks ghastly some days, and this band makes such a difference. If you could make something up, do your makeup to suit… I'm sure it will help get you through the stressful stage of hair loss and renewal. I feel that the sooner you stop worrying about losing your hair the sooner it will settle and grow back. I hope this has helped.

Thanks Judy for the encouragement. I appreciate it. I do wish that someone who has experienced the hair loss but also the growing back of hair would respond to this post too. Honestly its scarry because so far i read of others who can relate but not others who have had it get better. The dr says it will grow back etc. but does it really or is this a "down side" type if thing. Between this and hanging skin I'm really wondering if this was the right thing sometimes. Very conflicted. I'm sorry to vent. Just feeling scarred:)

Hi Joy....I'm in the same boat as you...hair loss and sagging skin. I hate both of these things....however, I hated being fat more. Please don't question your decision. You can hide the sagging skin with clothes, you can hide the hair loss with the help of your hair stylist or even get a wig. You can't hide fat. Everyone sees it and it doesn't look good. I have an awful turkey neck now and I hate the way it hangs. It's on my list for next year to get it fixed either with a facelift or that lifestyle lift....I'll have to check them both out. But remember...keep your chin up and be proud of the weight loss. Think of the hair and skin issues as our badges of honor. I know it's just mental manipulation, but try it, OK? We seem to be in similar places so feel free to message me if you want to vent. I'll listen and it helps me as well to know I'm not going through this alone. By the way, I think Missy had Hair loss issues and her hair is now OK. You can message her as well for some advice.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
