I wish we had Aldi's and Trader Joe's here in Jax. Sadly we have neither. But I stock up at Aldi when we go to Orlando for a day at Universal, or Disney. And I'm planning a Trader Joe's trip next week before Christmas.

There is an Aldi's in Daytona on Nova Road. They are supposed to be opening 1 or 2 in Orlando sometime early next year. At least you have Whole Foods. I have to drive up there to go. There is nothing in Palm Coast!!

You like Aldi's? I always thought they were like a Save A Lot store. I wasn't impressed with the at all.

The Aldi's I used to go when my children were young was very clean and the people were wonderful there. I have not shopped there in a long time. I think it works very well when you have a tight budget.

We have Aldi's and many thrift stores in the Zephyrhills area.

My wife has taken to the "shabby sheik" school of decorating. We have decorated our new double-wide with thrift store treasures and amazing pieces of furniture that were left by our dumpster in the trailer park. She reconditions them many times with "distressing". We get lots of compliments from visitors.

My billfold is singing the hallelujah chorus! :D

Jacksonville here. Go Gators!

Essence, my advice to you is to be positive. I feel the procedure (11/18) was 10 times easier than I expected. I spent 1 night in the hospital and had 1 dose of pain medication since I went home. I have more energy and was shopping 4 days after surgery, but being careful. One month post op, I stay out shopping 4-5 hours, when before surgery I barely would leave my house. I feel wonderful.

I had a little episode this week from not chewing long enough, and eating faster than I should. I strongly caution you to follow the guidelines of your doctor and don't be adventurous, it will bite you, LOL!!

Merry Christmas all, and good luck Essence!

If you don't mind me asking who did your surgery? I was a band to sleeve conversion or revision and have also had amazing results. I had a little more pain than you, but I think that was mostly from them having to dig out a port that had been attached to a muscle for almost 8 years. As I posted before I am in jacksonville (Fleming Island actually) and would love to get a monthly support group together.

Dr. Uchal at St. Vincent's, most awesome surgeon ever! We start first post op support meeting this afternoon late. If you had surgery St. Vincent's (Southside or Riverside) I am sure you could attend these meetings. You have reached goal, wonderful!

I also had surgery with Dr. Uchal, and he is a terrific surgeon. I LOVE the staff at his office, they make sure you are set, and understand everything along the way. My surgery was an emergency situation, I got the ok from insurance at 4pm on tuesday and had surgery at 6am on wed. When I lived in Chicago and was banded, we had a group that met monthly, it was informal, usually at Panera, or Sweet Tomatoes type places, and it was more the chance to know people that had the same type of surgery, and also had to follow a similar diet. It was more a group of people developing a friendship, and less about the support group setting. We discussed surgery, and progress but it was also a chance to discuss our lives, work, kids etc. I have issues getting to the support group at the hospital, since I have a middle school aged child, and between getting dinner done, help with homework, and then getting to the meeting from the westside, and back I don't have time to get everything done. :( I had surgery in May, and am past my goal at this point. Last time I saw Dr, Uchal, I was still 140, and he was thrilled. When I said I wanted to lose another 5 pounds, he almost fell off his chair. I told him I didn't do this surgery to squeek my way into a healthy BMI, I wanted to be in the middle or lower end of healthy. That way if I over indulged on vacation, or over the holidays, I still would be ok. :) He was glad I am so motivated, and said most people only want to get to the "healthy" range and then they are happy to stop. I've always been one of those people that is not happy with being average. I'm a perfectionist, and an overachiever so he was surprised that I was so determined to get to a size/weight that I would be happy with. I wanted to be a size 10, and now I'm approaching an 8 and couldn't be happier. :)

Pierced, Small world lol! We went to the first peer to peer group tonight, Probably 15 people. We are 66 and 67. Most people there were older than you. Some had surgery, some had not. Hardly got to know anyone there, the way it was set up. They have a www.facebook.com/stvincentsweightloss on FB I want to look at. My thought is to go to several of these meetings and see if we can get to know the people a little better and try to form a group. My husband and I have not told anyone about our surgery because we do not feel the need to share.

My husband has more health issues than I do, and he is 2 weeks post op, with diabetes and fighting low blood pressure problem right now. I will friend you and lets please stay in touch. Maybe after the holidays we can come up with a plan.

Best wishes everyone!

Linda

Call your doctor to be safe!!! Don't risk our opinions for your health. Seems you should not be having this feeling so soon since surgery. The bloating would be normal, being we all had gas problems probably. We pay these doctors a lot of money. Better safe than sorry. Good luck!!!!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
