How Fast Is Too Fast?

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve proceedure performed 3 months and 6 days ago, and so far I've lost 120 pounds. I feel great, my Protein intake is around 75-95 g per day, and I seem to be able to tolerate (within reason) anything I try to eat. My concern is the rate at which I am losing. My surgeon and dietician both seem to be OK with things, so I should probably just calm down. Still, I wonder if this rate of loss is unhealthy. I haven't hit a stall or plateau yet, and I am wondering if I'll skid right past healthy and become too skinny.

or I'm just being dumb and worrying over nothing.

Hey jack. I was about the same starting weight as you, and my rate of loss was about the same. Don't worry. The bigger you are, the faster you will lose......normally. Also men tend to lose faster than women...again....normally. So don't fret.

This whole concept of "losing too fast" is a total myth. Holding into 400 pounds of weight....that's what was unhealthy my friend. I know cause I was there too.

The biggest risk is gall bladder stones which I never had. And there is no evidence that the stones are any better or worse depending on rate of loss. At some point your rate of loss will slow down dramatically. If you slide right past a healthy weight you can always up your calories with easily digestible foods (sliders). But until that day comes, I would not worry about this. Keep following the plan and see what happens.

Congrats on your success so far.

Thanks very much. I tend to get myself worked up over nothing, and lately when I look in the mirror I swear it's some other guy looking back at me. Then I go back and look at old pics of myself (like the one to the left of this post) and I think "My god, how did I get so big and not notice?"

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
