Help! Surgery when sick?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I'm due to have my sleeve on Nov 21. My son has just started to show the first signs of getting sick. Does anyone know if they will delay my surgery if I am sick? I am hoping I will either a.) not get it or b.) get it and be over it by surgery time, BUT if it does turn out that I'm sick with the cold or flu at surgery time, does anyone know if they will still do it?

Thanks!

If your illness is not too serious and your lungs are clear you may be fine. However, please be understanding if your doctor wants to wait for surgery until you are better. It is in the interest of your safety during anesthesia that he/she may ask you to wait. Also, your recovery will be faster and easier if you go into surgery at full strength. Good luck!

Thank you, scooter girl! I am really hoping that, even if I get something between now and then, I will at least not be too sick for surgery. Between all the juggling at work I had to do to get the time off for the surgery in the first place, and getting the time off paid, I'm really needing this surgery to happen on the 21st!! But, obviously, my safety will come first!

I understand the stress of organizing ones life in preparation for surgery. Please be kind to yourself and try not to fret. Fretting sucks energy from you which is better used keeping you healthy and strong.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
