greersc -- please keep me updated. Very excited, I am going to Dr Alvarez as well on Nov 30th. I am a little nervous since I am going by myself, but from all indications that should not be a big deal at all. Good luck to you !

I started at 195, I'm 5' 5", tried everything to lose with no success. I love love love to excercise and all that did was maintain my weight for years. My decision to do the gastric sleeve was a last measure. I thought about it for years and thought it was a cop out until I saw a video testimonial from another sleever and she convinced me that this wasn't an easy route, but a viable option for better health. I have to loose 60-70lbs to achieve a healthy weight for my frame. I was sleeved in Colombia on 8/21/13 by a wonderful team of surgeons with over 3000 sleeves under their belt (Dr. Gongora and Dr. Velez). The cost including airfare for my mother and I was only $7000. They accepted plastic for all but $2000 of the fees. That was perfect for me. To date I've lost 33lbs. I'm excercising like crazy now, kettle bells, yoga and running. I feel great, look great and I'm RARELY hungry. HEAD hunger is the worst symptom, and like last night when I FINALLY gave into my month's long craving for a slice of pizza....I regretted it and will not likely eat pizza again. This is the BEST decision of my life. I highly recommend it for anyone stuck in the fight. Good luck.

I certainly will. Where do u live? I guess I worry most about the nutrition support and how to find out about the best Protein, liquid Vitamins all that.. I like costco premier and found an extra scoop of whey gets it up to 54 grams...but that is 8 oz to get in...

I live in the Houston area. Yea, I know what you mean about the nutritional aspect of it. I also thought I would try to try out some things now while I am waiting so that I will know what I like and what I do not. No sense wasting what little I can take in on something I do not like!

My flight is only about an hour, so that is not bad at all. I am just trying to make sure I have all of my questions answered and have no room for confusion since I am going alone. Truthfully I have always been fine going about things by myself and all, but this is a little different! I am just tired of being fat and miserable and really at this point prefer my husband not to even have to witness it anymore! lol

You are so funny! Lol but I know exactly what you mean and I kinda feel that way too..lol. Poor man, that's a great idea to try some things now, I am too! I just want to do everything he wants us to do so I can heal and have noooo issues. I want to go ahead and buy what I need so I will be prepared. I have read some great ideas about making your own ice pops with stevia instead of artificial sweeteners. And you can have those waiting for you. I bought dr A book and I got the big sleeve book. Both are great and so helpful. I am looking for a sleeve sister for support! Lol.

I was a low BMI and I having survey to lose 50 pounds max!! I have read study after study that says that lower BMI patients lose 90-100 percent of there excess weight! I am so happy I had my surgery! fYI if you want to compare a low bmi weight loss to higher Bmi and figure out your percentages you take amount of weight to lose and divide by weight lost! At 7 weeks you should have lost 25 percent of excess weight to be on track at 6 months you should be at 50 percent! Compared to others I appear to have lost less weight but when you do percentages I have lost over 60 percent of my excess weight since Sx in early July!!!!! I don't often mention that I am a low bmi and no offence to anyone but I am not interested in any negativity!! I believe weight loss Sx is a personal choice and if you can do it then I am happy cheer you in :)

I sad that wrong take the amount of weight u want to lose and divide by weight u have lost! That will give u the percentage of total body weight gne forever!!:) also just to answer a few of the guestions I see I am 3 months out I have had minimal Hair loss, I had a few weeks that I was super tired and had no energy! I have had some GERD issues which I had prior, I suggest taking omeprazole! Congrats to everyone who has made the decision to change their life!!!!! You will not regret it!!

I hadnt seen the numbers you quoted above about 25% of excess by 7 weeks etc. They give me hope! Do you remember where you found those? Would love to learn more about that. I started at BMI 37 and it's much slower going for us of course, so good to get educated about what's "normal" for us.

Lots of times my weight comes off then I will only lose inches for a while and repeat. Have you taken measurements?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
