Im not sure why people say you dont need it for 50 or 60 pounds... I have done everything BUT surgery to lose weight... weight watchers' date=' Jenny Craig, nutri system, personal trainer, visalus shakes. I am only 5'5 and have no co-morbites, but every woman in my family is obese to morbidly obese, and for me this is more of a preventative measure. I have no problem eating healthy, but my genetics really suck, and I'm not going to risk going down the road of all the other women in my family. Its not pretty![/quote']

I read your post and feel like you are me...thank you. I am scheduled for Nov 11 and starting to freak a little.

I am basically healthy. Lol I say that but I guess it's my perspective. :). Sometimes I look in the mirror and am shocked! at 34 BMI. 206 and 5'5". Hbp. Issues. I am Hispanic and the cards aren't great in the gene pool. I see the writing on the wall. 3 dr.s have mentioned the sleeve. I am a self pay going to Mexico with Dr Alvarez with Endobariatric. You name the diet..I have tried it. Lose 20+ lbs gain it back. Also, 2 out of 6 have diabetes in my family tree. I just don't want any more issues coming my way. Had the gallbladder taken out, I have been dieting since college. My wt was generally good until children, and that was yrs ago..lol. Can't blame them. Starting to isolate myself and just feeling more depressed, yet I am scared. Hate the hair falling out ordeal too. :(

Good post. I have 10 days till surgery. I'm BMI 40 but i could get lower on my own. For a while. I have high blood pressure and sleep apnea. Exercise is hampered by 30 yrs arthritus ruining my feet. I think the Sleeve is ideal for preventing further health problems and improving the ones I have. Go well everyone.

You will do great! I am really not in any pain just a bit of gas. Don't listen to what other people say to you. Its your body and your health and you are doing the best thing for YOU! Its super hard on your body to constantly be dieting, this gives you the tool to lose weight and not be hungry all the time!

People tell me the same thing, that they don't think I need it! even though that's a nice thing to say, I guess I must carry my weight well (in my dreams) because I am 5'5 and 200 lbs... that's not healthy! I have gained 25 pounds in 2 years and I know it's just downhill from here, especially considering my genetics. I say to hell with all those people... we need to do what's right for us! I haven't told my mom yet... she's going to flip her lid when she finds out I'm going to Mexico. The woman has barely made it out of CA in all her 50 years lol

Hello, I'm a low BMI-er too - BMI is 33. My surgery is scheduled for November 1st in Mexico. I understand where the higher BMI people are coming from, but you can't convince me that when they lose weight and get to the BMI 30-35 range, that they'd want the sleeve to be gone so they can just "try it on their own". You also can't convince me that it's no worse to lose and regain the same 50 lbs over and over and over again over the course of 20 years is any more unhealthy than being 100lbs overweight. The hardest part, IMO of being someone who based on appearance doesn't "need" surgery is that you start to feel defeated. Yeah, so we "only" have half the weight to lose as other people who do qualify for surgery. Does that make being overweight any less hard? Absolutely not. At the end of the day (as others have said) - this is a decision made based on what I want for myself. And I'm tired of being fat, just like everyone else.

Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox now. Good luck to you!!!

I was a low bmi and have fought the weight battle for at least 15 years. Obesity runs in both my families from my parents on up. I've lost 40 pounds more times than I can count and over the last few years I couldn't even lose more than 3-4#. I felt like my metabolism was busted. I lost most of my weight in 6 months, thought I was done when I held there for about a month, and then suddenly lost 10 more. I've been at 115-116 for more than 6 months and now have to work to keep that weight. Yes, I do know that could change tomorrow. But that's my situation today. You can PM me and I will share before/after pics. I just don't share them to the public because most people (especially my family) don't know I had surgery. Amy

I was just sleeved yesterday. My bmi is 31. I also have people telling me that I don't "need" the surgery. Of course I can't wait to look and feel great, but most importantly I am doing this as a preventative measure. My family is obese, we have high blood pressure and heart disease as well. I prefer to not get to the point where I can't move and am miserable. My mom supports me 100% because she had the lap band and and a Tummy Tuck in her 50's. She said she wishes she would have done it way sooner. My goal is to lose 50 pounds and every pound will be worth the money and the lifestyle change. My outlook on food has been changing ever since I started researching the sleeve. I'm proud of my decision. Those who sit in judgement have not walked in my shoes so their opinions don't affect me. I did this for me :)

I was a low bmi too I think 33-34 and I had surgery on 10-5 13 so it's been three weeks. I have lost 7 lbs total. I have 50lbs to lose I think I define the "slow loser" ! I will not lie I am constantly tired and I exercise. As of right now I am a little frustrated because it feels like I have gone thru too much to only have lost 7 lbs. I know we are not to compare ourselves but it's not butterflies and sunshine for everybody !

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
