Has anyone used Synvisc injections for osteoarthritis?

Recommended Posts

I had it. I was given the choice of 1 shot weekly for 3 weeks or I could have 1 "mega" shot. Stupid me, I thought 1 shot would be better (I mean who wants to get multiple shots when 1 will do). Well that was a bad decision. It was one of the most painful shots I have ever had. It brought tears to my eyes. The sad thing is I found no relief from the injection. I will say that my mom had the injections in both her knees and it worked for her. In fact, she was able to put off her total knee replacements for several years.

Yikes. Did your mom have 1 or did she do the series of 3? Ive read some people say it was t bad at all and others are like you. I've been considering them, but ouch. I don't know how heavy you are but do you think the fat around the knee makes it worse? My doc said it might be better after I lost some more weight, but I've reached my insurance out of pocket and I'm sure they are expensive. How long did the relief last for your mom?

I had them, and had great success. I was able to stall a total knee replacement for almost 5 years, with several series of synvisc. Last year my other knee started bothering me, and I had the Euflexxa http://euflexxa.com/ version of the same type of shot. That was in Nov and I am still doing pretty good. I'm thinking early Dec I will go for another round. I know that some people have had bad allergic reactions to Synvisc, I believe it's the preservative. But there are like 4 or 5 other brands out there so that shouldn't be too big of an issue. Doctors deal with it everyday. Just remember that NSAIDS are no longer an option with the sleeve. I had to remind my ortho several times, as he doesn't deal with WLS patients too often. And yes losing weight will make a big difference. The injections will last longer, and the joint will be less painful.

I've been getting Orthovisc injections in my right knee the last 3 years. They last me about a year. The first time didn't hurt much. The last time was super painful.

She had the series of 3 shots each time. Each knee had the treatment 4x. She never had a bad reaction. The shots are expensive, but I guess the insurance figured they were cheaper than a knee replacement.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
