Wow this group has grown!!! I'm having a hard time keeping up!

2 weeks and 6 days countdown for me. I start the liquid diet in 6 days. Yes, that means no Thanksgiving dinner this year. Oh well, I'm hoping to take off about 10 pounds pre-op, so my eyes are on the prize. All my clothes are fitting pretty snug these days due to food funerals I've been having... Not a good strategy I know.

It's getting so real. I just made my final co-insurance payment, and filled out all pre-op paperwork at the hospital, so all I have to do is check in on the op day. So very excited and proud of me putting myself first. As a single mom, I'm never putting my needs first, and it's about time.

My turn to vent frustration. Went to my NUT pre-class last night. I was weighed in and met my 5lbs weight loss goal, I met with my coordinator as she had originally told me that if I met my goal she would sent the package to the surgery scheduler. She asks me if the surgery scheduler has contact me yet as she put the request in last week to have the surgery scheduled because she figured I would meet my goal. Of course I have heard nothing.

So I attempt to contact the surgery scheduler this morning and was told she was busy and had a few other cases she was scheduling before she could get to mine. That I should expect a call back by the beginning of next week. Really????

They have already had the request since 10/30. I guess I just need to be pesky and make a phone call once a day till she gets on the phone with me. Feeling very frustrated because I have done my part, insurance was approved and now just waiting for the date.

I'm Angie, 39, 5'6, 307. I'm meeting with Dr Lisa Martin Hawver on Dec 6 to discuss getting the sleeve. Can anyone tell me the length if time from first meeting with surgeon to surgery date? Just curious

My first appointment with him was in June, but he personally requires a 6 month weigh in with the nutritionist. My surgery date is the 4th :)

Also depends on your insurance and stuff !

Yes, it does depend on insurance. some want 6 months of an approved supervised diet, others want you to see a Nutritionists several times, others pyschariatrist several times, and then there are the surgeon's pre-requisites.

For the most part mine went fast. Only needed 3 doctor's visits in 3 consecutive months. I had my first appointment with the surgeon on Aug 15th and was pretty much wrapped up with everything in September until I hit a snag with my EKG and Echo test. Would have been sleeved in the middle of Oct had it not been for the hiccup. But at least I found out nothing was wrong with my heart. But by the time, I got the clearance, November was booked up! But I feel like I am amongst lovely and beautiful company in December!!

Insurance Medicare/Medicaid

You'll have to go through the steps. Don't anticipate surgery in January. You'll be disappointed. Is there a website you can check to fing out what the pre-requistes are for Medicare/Medicaid?

I called my insurance yesterday and I'm approved, yeah!! exited and scared as I have not had any surgery of any kind, the most extensive thing I've had done was a pulled tooth. So I spoke with my doctors office and my date is going to be either 12/13 or 12/30, she's going to call me back after taking to the doctor. :D

I started this whole process in August, and on November 8th received my approval.. I had done some of the test already, and have 1 more to complete. My surgery date is 12/17/13.

My journey started on July 24th. I was required to have 4 monthly NUT visits (with the first one taking place on 7/24). I received my approval on October 25th, and am scheduled for surgery on December 11th...about a 4 1/2 month process.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
