Ok, so I was banded 2 weeks ago and not scheduled for my 1st fill until 10/31. My problem is chocolate! chocolate has always been my problem...grrr

I follow all the rules, Protein and Water in the morning 1st thing! lots of protein! I get on average of 120 gm of Protein a day. I know I need a fill because I think about food a lot and I do not stay full for more than a couple hrs. But the big problem started yesterday. I want chocolate!! I ate 1 small, bite-size, 3 musketeers and it was heaven!

However, I didn't get this band to destroy all my efforts because I can't control my urges for chocolate.< /p>

Someone, anyone, have any suggestions for ways to curb this craving?

My doctor has approved me for stage 4 foods as long as I'm having no problems. Nothing is bothering me. I can even eat a piece of toast with no problems. He says as long as I follow the portion rules and listen to my body so I don't over-eat, I can go ahead and try most foods. I'm to stay away from rice, Pasta, and tough meats like chicken, pork, and beef still...

If you're only 2 weeks post op, are even supposed to be having solid food yet?

you've lost 230 lbs?

okay, i don't recommend this and don't do it myself. but........baker's chocolate is 1/2 the sugar than regular chocolate and less fat. it might just be a answer if you can't say no to candy bars. it melts down easily ..add some nuts to it and drop teaspoon fulls on a baking sheet and cool. put in your refrig. and indulge on 1 piece once in awhile. it shouldn't interfer with your weight loss program. i learned about this when i tried the south beach diet.

Cravings are really hard, but what I've found is the only way to beat them is to go cold turkey and not give in for a couple days. It's rough, but it's usually after a day or two without the chocolate (or other sugar) the cravings stop.

If I eat sugar, I crave sugar, so I really try to stay away from it.

my dietician gave me a recipe that is not bad as I love chocolate and pnutbutter. 1 sugar free pudding in a cup, 2 TBS PB2 (the powered pnutbutter), 2 tablespoons chocolate Protein Shake (in power form). mix together with spoon and enjoy.hope this helps deb

I would also talk to your dietitian if you have access to one. deb

Or you could just have chocolate Protein Shakes. I agree with the "eat sugar, crave sugar" thing. Thats me. If I stay away from it I'm better. You don't want to sabatoge yourself with chocolate and its also a slider food and will not satisfy your hunger.

Yes I have :)

WOW!! that's amazing! Congratulations! I think I will try the cold turkey thing for a week until after I weigh in next friday (if I can make it). Thank you for the advice! I'm worried I won't be able to do it but I will try...

this sounds like an idea for those days that I just HAVE to have it! but I am going to try the cold turkey thing 1st..with my Sugar Free Chocolate pudding as my back up. Lets see what happens.

Thanks all for the suggestions.

I lost 176 pounds prior to banding, I too had a chocolate fetish. To top it off I am a wholesale baker so I am around chocolate all the time. But I just had to retrain my eating habits I kept 50 calorie Snacks handy should my desire for chocolate get the best of me. After 5 or 6 weeks of not eating chocolate or sugar I found I felt so much better. I had lived with bad headaches for most of my life and they went away. It has been just 3 years since I started my weight loss journey and I have to say chocolate is no longer a temptation for me. New better habits really can be formed. It just takes will power and a little time. Good luck!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
