NOVEMBER 2013 Surgeries

Recommended Posts

Haven' t posted in a few days.. So great to follow my fellow Nov group! Bypass on the 18th.. Just moved up to real food .. So sick of Protein Shakes, eggs, cottage cheese and laughing cow wedges.. ( funny those tasted so delicious a week ago)

Energy level good but still not up to 64ozs of fluids or 60 grams protein.. Each day is a bit better.. The sippy cup idea really helped me get more in!

I can tolerate the Protein Powder since I switched to metabolic life .. Much easier to digest with the enzymes in it!

So many helpful suggestions on this forum....

Tomorrow I can start more of an excersis program ( had added belly hernia repair) .. Fighting dehydration and low blood pressure.. Today they took me off that ! YEAAA .. Problem solved!

Hope everyone is keeping that positive attitude... It is so important now! Down 24 # and my GERD cough is gone and so are the meds for that... Keep posting.. I love reading all your journeys ! Dyan from Ohio

I'm so glad to have found this thread.

I had RNY two days before my 2nd son's 8th birthday (thanksgiving) and was home by Wednesday afternoon! Physically everything is healing well and I'm drinking (a little less than half what I'm supposed to be), but emotionally I just feel out of sorts and I get really grumpy with the kids at dinner time ... I'm still not sure if it's them not listening or watching them eat that's bothering me ... I've really been enjoying getting to chew when it's time to take my Multivitamin ... Sigh

Hi guys and gals! I'm new to BariatricPal! I am 11 days out. I had the Bariatric Sleeve on Nov. 25, 2013. Like one of the other ladies, I came home the Wednesday before thanksgiving. I was really excited and not having much trouble with the Protein until about 2 days ago. All of a sudden I want real food and I hate the taste of my Protein shake. I don't know what it is but I want something sweet all the time. If anyone knows something that will soothe that craving please let me know.

Hi everyone, I had my operation on the 28th of Nov. and so far doing ok. I am with a few of you having a hard time writing things down after doing it for a year just cant get back into it. I too cant stand the protien drinks except glucerna I can still manage to drink if I feel the need too. I was wondering if any of you at this point have tried salads and how it was for any of you.

Happy to see our Nov group is moving towards a healthier life! I am doing what I need to do... Work outs are behind even though I joined the YMCA ( which is just a mile away and a beautiful club). I am 64 but that can't be an excuse to not work harder! My other issue is when I fix my meals .. I am not consistent with that 1/2 cup measuring cup! I have just been "guessing" and waiting to feel full.... NOT A GOOD PRACTICE for any of us. I am in my third stall now... Lost and gained the same pound for 5 days.. Down 50# so it is all good.. Started at 252 .. Now 202... So want to be in ONEderland at 199. Anyone else stuck again? My stalls can last for a few weeks UGH

I was stalled for about a week. Now the lb is off. It was my first stall that lasted more that 3 or 4 days. I have hit 47 lbs!!! I was at 226 now I am 179. I was sooo thrilled to be in the 100's too. Every time it a new number I do a happy dance.

You are doing great. I think stalls are normal. I have made a deal with myself to never get too worked up over one. We will get past it !!!! The weight will come off it really will !!!! Good luck stay positive !!!

hi everyone had my operation now two months ago trying to do normal food and having some issues knowing what I can eat, Like some of you some days I can eat it the next i am sick. I think some are right I do eat too fast some times. I think it is important to make sure we pay attention when we eat and the time it takes us. I do know one thing dont try lobster...it is too much like steak texture and wow was I sick..

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
