For Smokers : Have you been told you have to stop smoking?

Recommended Posts

I haven't met with my surgeon yet but I'm doing meetings etc. I have listed on all paperwork that I do smoke approx a pack a day and have had no one say anything to me about it. I have found a few posts on here saying you had to quit. So can you let me know what your doctor has told you about smoking? I don't want to wait til I get any further to find out I have to stop. I'd like to know in advance so I can start working on it. I appreciate your help. Thanks

Yes I had to be smoke free for at least six weeks before they would even let me do the blood work. Best of luck most doctors make you stop smoking before they will operate

Yes, I was also told I had to quit. I had to be 8 weeks nicotine free before they would do surgery.

I guess I will be calling the office on Monday morning to find this out for sure. They close early on Fridays. Ugh I hope they don't require 8 weeks because they said my surgery is going to mid October but I will find out for sure on Monday. I appreciate all the replies.

Is that the electronic cigarettes I've seen advertised? Where do you purchase?

Lots of places online. Your town may even have a vape shop. I buy a bunch of my stuff from here http://www.smoktek.com/

I had to quit smoking at least 6 weeks in advance, they did a nicotine test the day before surgery. But, quitting smoking only makes quitting food that much easier.

I have tried to quit so many times but failed miserably. My husband smokes so its very hard when I see him smoking. Maybe this time will be different. This is the first time I have a reason that motivates me. I'm still planing to call the Dr on Monday to confirm so I will post what the result is then. Who knows I may quit even if they don't require. I know it is the best thing to do it will only make the healthier :)

My husband and I started vaping at the same time last year. He still sneaks a smoke and i can sure smell it on him when he does. Right after surgery, with the stress and all from it...I did try to smoke one but it tasted so gross! I'll stick to my cinnamon roll flavor e-liquid and continue on with vaping. Best decision i ever made besides getting rny surgery.

I wasn't told anything cuz I had stop smoking over 1 year before thinking on surgery but I now use e-cig and not even much. It's only when the urge attacks but my mind is full of active life to even pay mind to it lmbo

I called first thing and just got a call back. The surgeon does not require me to stop. In a way I'm glad because I know I'm going to get super stressed once it gets close. I am going to get chantix when I have my appt and start it a week before surgery so hopefully I'll come home from the hospital and be able to not smoke. Yeah another goal lol

I had to be smoke free for 6 months and they tested me the week before and the day of surgery. If I showed any signs I had smoked they would have canceled my surgery. Plus I felt much better after surgery not smoking then I had my previous surgeries when I smoked. My stress was insane before surgery and so was my blood pressure. They had to give me medicine to lower it before I went I to surgery. I've been smoke free for a year and enjoy every minute of it. I had this surgery to become healthy....well to me that is in very aspect.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
