Question- Has anyone who has already had surgery had a cold or been sick on the day of surgery? If so, do they still perform the procedure? I have a stuffy nose and its also runny. today is day 2, been up all night cause of it blahhhhh

Normally they'll postpone any elective surgery if you're sick....excess secretions = increased risk Of complications. Rest and fluids, Vitamin C if you're allowed to have it pre-op and call your doc if things aren't getting better a day or two before surgery. If you're running a fever or it's causing chest congestion you're SOL, if it's just your head and it's improving you may get lucky! Good luck, feel better soon!

It's always best to err on the side of caution, you should be in good health prior to surgery. After surgery your body is recovering and shouldn't be bound by trying to fight against a virus while healing as well.

I've seen lots of people have surgery with simple colds and stuffiness. It depends to what degree you are sick. Infection? No. Cal your team

no infection.. drainage is clear, just congested in my nose. lungs are great, ears are great, and throat is fine. no cough. Taking Emergen-C, getting rest, and decongestant, and Vitamin C drops! Have the humidifier going as well! I feel fine actually. don't feel run down or lack of energy at all. just cant breathe and taste is a tad off. I think I should be ok by Monday. that's still a bit always and your body can perform wonders in a 24 hr period.

Usually as long as it isn't an infection, you should be fine. if it's just allergies and stuff you should be alright. :) Good luck. But remember, Your doctor does things that are in your best interests. :)

I was sick as a dog the day I had surgery! The anesthesiologist came in, looked at my throat, and said I would be just fine. As long as everything is clear and your throat isn't too swollen, you should be fine. I was worried because my throat was SO swollen! He said as long as they're able to safely intubate, they don't usually worry about common colds because you'll be on antibiotics during and after surgery.

Also, go buy a Neti Pot and use it! I discovered them the week of surgery (I was desperate and trying everything! Lol)... They are SO amazing at clearing up your sinuses! Make sure you use bottled Water though! Never get your water out of the faucet because you don't know what germs are in it!!!!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
