protein shakes

Recommended Posts

I use the EAS carb control in rich dark chocolate. I buy the ready made shakes' date=' chill them and enjoy! It tastes just like chocolate milk!!! They're my favorite besides unjury chocolate splendor! Good luck!! <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />[/quote']

Have you tried the new eas chocolate ones? They changed their formula. It's not as chocolately as it used to be and I find it sweeter. The only pro is that they now have a screw top so I save some for later if needs be. Oh and it also has less carbs and less calories but I'd rather have them back and have more chocolate flavoring.

Thanks Sheri for the sample tip! I just ordered one from Bariatric Choice and will look around further. I'm having a problem finding something that is pre-mixed and fits my surgeon's criteria that it be whey isolate and less than 3 grams of sugar. I'm supposed to be drinking four of these a day right now but have barely managed to choke down 3.

Your welcome. I am a mother of 3 working 2 jobs to make ends meet I lost the love of my life and extra income last year. saved up to meet my co-pay for my surgery. Didn't plan on having to save up to find a Meal Replacement that I could drink for the rest of my life and it taste descent. So I am all about research into what I can get for cheap to free. I figure if I can find a meal replacement and Protein Powder that would cover me for a month that if I pay about a hundred dollars is about what I would have spent on grocery's for about two weeks for just myself I am doing good. Not looking for sympathy just honest about my world.

I've tried....

3 different brands from Walgreens

Bariatric Advantage from online

Pure Protein from Trader Joes

And.... I've finally found my love.

Blue Bonnet Protein!!! It mixes well, all natural, not gritty, doesn't separate when it sits, no artificial additives. Even mixes well with my yogurt. It comes in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, blueberries and original. Super high in Protein too.

It's a little pricy. I pay about $50 every 2 weeks which consist of one container of vanilla with 14 servings for $33 and 8 single packages.. additional flavors @ $2.65 each.

Its so yummie is rather drink my shake then eat actual food.

Liked this at first then post-op just couldn't stand the saltiness of it any more....the exact same reason I liked it at first (everything else is soooo sweet!!!)

It's not something I"d pick on purpose but it's something I can drink so for now, it's a winner! I certainly wouldn't want it 4 times a day but it was not bad at all for dinner.< /p>

Leticia where did you find the blue bonnet Protein shakes

There a place here in Stockton called Greens Nutrition. It's on 8 mile road. You can even get your Vitamins there and low to non sugar condiments... Snacks, noodles, .. all kinds of stuff.

I am liking the Unjury Protein Shakes MUCH better than what I had. The chocolate splendor really is pretty good! I certainly wouldn't drink it if I wasn't on a special diet but it's not bad and I can easily get it down.

Funny to be this excited about Meal Replacements but I have this meal replacement that I purchased from GNC chocolate silk. I don't think that it is bad alone I have tried it with skim milk and its creamy. I tried it with cold Water taste like cocoa mix with water can stomach it. But OMG I put it in Decaf coffee with ice and blended it and it taste like a Frappuccino and because of the sweetness of the meal replacement didn't have to add any sweeteners was perfect. Now I can have my Protein, Vitamins, water, and decaf coffee all in one.

I remember being excited by adding coffee to my Protein, it felt like heaven.. Now I'm completely turned off by it because I drank it every morning like that.. Now I can hardly get it down : (

Dang I hope I keep enjoying it this way for awhile because I missed my coffee since I had to stop caffeine and could never get the Decaf brand to taste right and for the first time since drinking any meal replacement I didn't frown after taking that first sip and I am 5 days short of 4 months post op. I was already hyper sensitive to smells to start with and after just the smell of the powder turned my stomach. Can't eat most Protein Bars because the horrid after taste. and most meal replacements and protein powders have that powder and funky after taste (gross) even in pudding. but this way maybe because I blended it with the warm coffee first no loose powder or clumps just smooth like I had went to a coffee house and ordered a Frappuccino. the only thing I think may be a problem is when I did drink Frappuccino's would sip on them for hours and can't do this with my meal replacement because I wait 2 hours after to take my Iron and it fills me up so much that I couldn't eat anything for too many hours after. Next time going to try to add less Water.< /p>

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
