What kind of medication did you all go home with? Don't doctors usually give pain and nausea medication? Freaking out because I just found out at my preop appt that my doc gives neither. I was told to buy Tylenol. That does nothing for me, Motrin is out of the question now.... So I'm stressed. Pain after surgery seems pretty darn likely. :/.

I think we have the same doctor... but if not, my doctor doesn't give pain meds either. I just got out of the hospital yesterday and before hand I was a bit freaked out about the pain meds thing but they did a good job with it in the hospital and after talking to the doctor his reasoning for no take home pain meds made since... you could really hurt yourself if you don't follow the diet to the T in the first three weeks and being home alone on narcotics isn't going to have you in your best mind-frame nor able to make the best decisions, which is pretty important. He also said that if I felt I still needed the pain meds I could stay in the hospital, kinda harsh I guess but I understand.

So today, my first day home I do have some pain but it isn't manageable I did get some Tylenol haven't tried it yet, not sure what the point is as it does nothin for me. I'm going to try a heating pad tonight and see if that helps any.

Thank you. We do have the same doc, and I really like him, but I'm not sure about that part. I cant sit in the hospital just for pain medication, and actually want to be home ASAP... What you explained makes sense, but I don't know if I can be ok knowing that is not even an option. :( I'm glad you are doing well, how many days were you in the hospital? Let me know how it goes with the heating pad!

I was in the hospital for 2 days mostly because I have diabetes. Honestly the worst pain was the gas pain and when that started moving it was better, it's really just sore, don't worry! I talked to a bunch of people that had had surgery with him an they didn't have any trouble either. You may want to call or email to Karli his nurse, she's great and helped with some of my fears with that too. She had surgery with him too.

I'm finally home from the hospital. My doc sent me home with pain med and nausea meds. Im actually feeling really good. I am getting 64 oz in but not 60g of Protein yet. My doc made it a point not to chew gum just in case you accidentally swallow it. He recommended listerine strips. Everyone seems to be doing really good.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write, It means a lot. I'm thankful for the support. I am def going to call tomorrow, I want to talk about it before the surgery so we agree on the discharge home care. I feel so sad about this, I felt all was going so smoothly for me in this process. It was like hitting a wall when they told me that. Its a big deal to me because I fear being in pain with no help, its actually been a fear/nightmare of mine all my life, like panic producing fear! My first appt with him, he had given me the impression pain control would not be an issue.

It didn't even really sink in until I was on the way home... Then the panic hit. I had already signed my consents and everything. Do you have Karlis email? Could you message it to me?

if this is something we can't work out , I wonder how quickly I could get scheduled with another surgeon since all my preop stuff is complete and approved by the insurance company already?

Question everyone...I am on day 3 of pre op liquid. Headaches daily and having hard time concentrating. Is it alright to eat watermelon? Low calories and 92% Water? How about Soup? I can get same amount of Protein from soup as shake' date=' with fewer calories. Having hard time finding shakes I like. Is it that I need to eat 800 calories, or only liquid? Seems like I could do this easier if I just restricted to calories, and not liquid. Just trying to keep sanity for 11 more days![/quote']

It gets better!! I am on my clear liquid today. Surgery in the AM

There is nothing to say that actualy helps with the loss i lost my father in law about a month ago ( he has been my dad longer than my own father). But to say that i try to live my life in the happiness that he would like to see and honour him by doing that. I like to think that if he is looking down and there would be a smile on his face at my antics and he would be at peace because i was happy and not sad. :)

I get to go home this morning. I will be able to rest a lot better. My surgeon says I will have to be sipping all day to get the adequate hydration in order to not dehydrated. It's tough for me to get the liquids down. Which is why I was here 3 night's. I guess my best friend will be my cup for a while. He says it will get easier. Is it tough for everyone else to get liquids in?

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
