I would really love to hear how everyone's day of surgery went! I am having mine on March 26th. I am nervuos, excited, scared and everything in between. How did you feel when you woke up? I will be in the hospital from Tuesday-Friday, will be able to take a shower during that time? Will they give me pain meds right after surgery? How did you feel after 1 week? 2 weeks? I would love to hear about everyone's journey.

My surgery was at 7 a.m. and of course I was scared, nervous and excited. Everything happed so quick, once I checked into the hospital and before I knew it I was standing on the scale outside of the OR and I walked in, hopped on the OR table, I spoke to the surgeon and the anestheologist (sp?) and he said "sweet dreams". I remember waking up in my room and being in pain, they had me on morphene so I kept on hitting that button. By the next morning (24 hrs) I was up walking laps around the floor that I was on. The more you move around the better you feel. I was discharged on the 3rd day, the muscles hurt in your abdomen when you are trying to sit up from a laying down position or getting up from the toilet but otherwise I was good. I am a very big baby when it comes to pain so I took my meds as directed and I was back to work that following Monday, 7 days after surgery. I worked 1/2 day in the a.m. and when home and worked the rest of the day from home for the first week back and after that I was back 40 hrs wk. The overall expierence for me was fantastic, I had no problems or issue, I followed my surgeon's directions exactly and now I will be 1 yr. post op on April 9th... I would do it again in a second !!!

Thank you for sharing your story. I hope and pray that my surgery goes as smoothly as yours. I am taking 2 weeks off as I am a teacher and I am not sure I could handle coming back after just a week. :) I hope that although you are 1 year out, you continue to live that wonderful and healthy life this surgery has offered you. I am afraid I will miss food but it is not my friend. I can't wait to see the new me.

My surgery was Jan 24. I was not nervous at all. I stayed in the hospital Thurs-Sun. I had a rough 48 hours due to nausea related mostly to Fentanyl patch and PCA. I only stood at bedside day of surgery that evening as I would turn white and get sick. Never vomitted. They did a great job giving me many anti nausea meds. On Friday I only got out of bed a few times, short walks, still nauseated. they pulled my cath on Friday so i had to get up more to urinate- which was a good thing now thinking back. By Saturday afternoon once the patch and med were out of my system I felt so much better and was able to walk numerous times in hallway and sit in chair. I believe I showered on Saturday. Thursday and Friday are a blur as I was intoxicated on too much pain meds..lol. I was tired the first four days home and all i did was sleep and drink and take my pain meds. I slept in a reclinner the first 12 days as I am a side sleeper and i couldn't sleep in a bed. By my first post-op appointment 13 days later I was feeling much better and once they took the stitches out and advanced my diet to soft foods I felt like a new person. By one month out I was back to my old self and now at a little over 6 weeks I feel awesome.

I have learned every person's experience is different. i was highly sensitive to the pain meds they used and once I was switched to oral hydrocodone and they took the patch off (which initially was forgotten) I felt much better. I still have OCC. nausea but Zofran sublingual is a miracle drug... Just follow the program designed by your surgeon. You will notice on here all surgeons are different regarding how fast they advance diet and rules.. Don't worry about others just focus on what they have designed as this has been what they have found to be successful for their program..

I should add that this is my first week back to work- took six weeks off. Best thing I could have done. Also your abdomen will be sore- I had a binder i wore in the hospital but when my stitches and areas healed my abdomen itched. It is also normal to be more sore on left upper quadrant this is where the heavy equipment goes in and they tork on the muscle. Remember to sip, sip, sip, find a Protein drink that works for you (don't give up as some have issues finding one that works), and take your Vitamins.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and giving all that advice. I need all the advice I can get at this point. I just bought some ensure clear, but I haven't tried it yet. I went for my pre-op visit today and it just got real an as excited as I am, I am so nervous! Terrified of failing because I have failed so many times before. I know I can do it but I have convinced myself before and then failed. I just want to lose this weight.

If you follow your drs and nuts orders its hard to fail but it is a lot of work besides following there orders keep a journal or my fitness pal.com to log all your food Water Protein it really helps and when you see your nut if your having any problem she can look at it and give suggestion on food and exercise you can keep other notes on the to I just put them under food notes and just take it one day at a time cause you can do it and have a huge family to help support you on here

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
