Surgery in the morning

Recommended Posts

Sorry it took me so long to respond. My Internet was off. I had my surgery done at Newark Beth Isreal in Newark, NJ. My doc is Yvan Ducheine. He visited me after the surgery but didn't tell me he did open surgery on me. I found out when the nurse came to take the drain and pump out about 2 hours after he left! My experience was horrible. About 1 pm that afternoon I was asking if someone could help me up so that I could try and walk around but my nurse said no because she didn't want me to hurt myself. But came back at 5pm and told me I was being discharged in about an hour! Every1 was shocked when they saw me trying to get dressed to go home only 30 hours after being ripped open. I was in so much pain Nd felt like no1 in that hospital cared about me. My nurse called me a baby cuz I was crying from the pain. My husband was almost thrown out for demanding I be given meds (they took my morphine pump around 11 am) I'm sorry for ranting and raving but I really feel dejected and really depressed about what happened to me

Oh my dear.....you have to file a complaint. There is no excuse for being treated this way. My surgeon said if in an emergency he is forced to change to open, we would have at least a 4 day stay. Please call your surgeon, call the hospital and complain to all. This is outrageous. I'm so sorry this happened to you.

#1...Have your husband take you to ER...#2..then have him call your insurance member service department file a grievance

#3. Get a lawyer

this is so upsetting to me...I told my dr. If he couldn't do laparoscopic surgery then cancel surgery. ..clearly someone is not doing there job at this hospital. ..wish you the best!

My doctor told me also because I have past abdominal surgeries it may happen that he will have to do a open. But it's three nights stay for laparoscopic and a week stay if its open. NG tube and morphine pump first 24 hours. Can't possibly fathom what you went through. I would file a complaint with the hospital also for the way the nursing staff treated you. Your experience is horrible. Hope things get better soon.

I wasn't even told that in case of an emergency that he would switch to open. As far as pain management, I feel horrible. These percocets don't work. My dad gave me some OxyContins and they help a lot and just make me sleep. They say walk 30 mins a day but how? I can't even get up on my own. I'm thinking of going to the emergency room tomorrow but the thought of sitting there for hours before being seen is deterring me

You need to go asap..don't take anything that wasn't prescribed to you..could make you sick...the sooner you get medical care betters your chances for any future lawsuits..there clearly was some medical negligence the moment they decided to discharge you so soon after your surgery. If you need to wait few hours at er as much as you hate it..it is necessary. .you can also call 911 get ambulance to take you in to insure there is less harm done to you getting in and out of car...im 2 weeks post op and I still hurt getting in and out of my car...don't hesitate. .get proper medical care..

Yup. Pro-active is the way to go. Nothing about what you said sounds right. Is there another Bariatric surgeon you can consult with? I'd sure try. I'll be praying for you.

You should NOT have to wait at ER since you just had surgery they'll take you right back. Make sure you tell them you JUST had surgery and are in extreme pain.

Hey guys. I am in the er now. Been here since 4pm (Its 7:15 now) I've been feeling very weak, dizzy and sweating all day & last night and there's a huge knot? in the spot where the drain was. I consulted with a lawyer today and he claimed he couldn't do anything because I probably signed a consent form b4 surgery Which prob stated the surgeon would do open RNY if he couldn't do it laparoscopically for whatever reasons. I told him I understood that but my problem was that I wasn't told it could be an option or even informed that it was done to me even after the surgery. Like it was a big secret. I'm gonna try and find a few more lawyers to consult with. I really appreciate you guys for supporting me through this. I really do! Last night I felt so depressed and just wanted to die. Thank you my friends.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
