Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

HOLY HECK.... where have I been?????

With the holiday, I had to bust booty on payroll yesterday and today, and out of the BLUE.. dbf has a job interview in Columbia MO tomorrow.. they are putting us up in a hotel tonight so today at lunch I was scrambling around to throw some clothes and swim suits in a bag so we can hit the road as soon as I get home.

Teach and Terri: you are both losing pounds! I am boycotting the scale til I get a fill.... which is Monday.

I need to go catch up on posts and then clear my office for my day off tomorrow.

Good Afternoon Shrinking Violets,

Michelle -I'm so happy you are now in bandland. Hurrah!

Exercise Queens -

I admire what you are doing and strive to push myself more.

Basically -

I do 5 days of aerobics a week with 45 minute workout on the EFX machine (it's like the elliptical without the arms). Two days a week I work an extra 30 minutes with my trainer on all different muscle groups. I recently added five minutes more cardio. As I lose weight I will capable of more time or difficulty.

I also want to get my scuba license, so I am finding out what I have to do to get that. I want my lifestyle to be more active so i will naturally maintain my weight loss when it comes off.

Best wishes,

It's true when they say that your fill takes a few days to work. I had my fill done on Saturday. On Monday I started eating solids again. I took it slow on Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday I encountered no problems. Ate just like normal. Was already thinking that I was going to have to run to get a slight adjustment. Well this morning when I was trying to eat my Breakfast of cottage cheese with rasberries I was having a real hard time with it. After about three bites I gave up. The food felt "rough" going down. Almost like the golf ball feeling but not so intense. So anyways, I just got back from lunch. I was having a bowl of chicken "caldo", which is mexican chicken Soup. The chicken is not cut up and there are no noodles in it. Just chicken pieces and lots of vegetables. I'm Mexican so it's been real hard to "put the tortilla down". I haven't had any problems with tortillas until today. I grabbed the chicken leg out of the soup and wrapped the tortilla around it. I took a bite out of it and started chewing. I guess I didn't chew very well because 2 seconds after I swallowed I felt like I was underwater and I couldn't come up for air. I panicked and got up and started pacing the room. I had to tell myself to calm down and breathe through my nose. That bite was sooooo painful going down. I never PB'd or slimed but it was a horrible experience. I desperately wanted to chug some Water to "help" it go down but I remembered that doing that would make it worse. So I just went outside to walk around a little bit and after about 15 minutes I felt better. I didn't eat another bite. My throat feels sore now. That tortilla kicked my ass...

Ow, ow, ow...

That's how my belly feels now... owie. Hurts to move, twist, turn... anything! And I really can't tell what's where under there... port? band? <shrug> My right side hurts more than the left. I'm not freaking about it... just figure it's par for the course... no shoulder pain at all... slowly sipping the day away... so I'm normal, right?

Yes, Michelle -- pain is normal for a few days. Take your pain meds if you're too uncomfortable; that's what they're for! I was in a good amount of pain (and taking meds) for 5 days. Are you doing breathing exercises? I know it hurts to breathe deep, but keep doing it and it will feel better after 2-3 breaths. How do you feel emotionally??

Found this message from Tracy on a separate thread.. I told her I'd share it with everyone...

help.gifFor some unknown reason...I can not post in the Shrinking Violets thread anymoreeek.gif

As long as I am not logged in, I can get into the thread and read all of the posts, but as soon as I log in, I get an error (just on that thread) saying to e-mail the webmaster@lapbandtalk.com to let them know of my problem. I have done that and I still can't talk to my friendsthink.gif

So, I just wanted to let you all know that I am still here, I just have a muzzle on for the time being.speechless.gif Please pass the word on for me.

Take care everyone.....

OMG---poor TracyTX.....we do miss you. Hope you will be back among us soon!!! If you are anything like me, you are hopelessly lost, when you get those messages!!! Thanks Judy for letting us know!!!!!

Well Laura I have bad news. DH gave our old computer to a friend who rebuilds them, and gives them to the local Sarah's House shelter, which is for victims of domestic and sexual abuse. He said he thinks we had taped the envelopes containing all the discs into the covers of the manuals. I am thinking he is right, because all of them are MIA....even all the photo editing discs...everything. He said he took out the receipt which was stapled to the book as well, and he thinks the discs were all in there. I tend to do that, put them into the cover of the book, along with any warranty info, receipts etc. Which is why I thought I could easily put my hands on it, I had no idea he had taken it all with the computer. To be honest, I had no idea he even knew where to find the file in the file cabinet!!! If he knew that was there, I think he needs to take over some of the filing here at home!!! Sorry......I can ask around if you like, my Dad runs XP...but thinking the same friend built Dads computer, so he probably kept all that, but I will ask him.

Tracy---have fun on your impromptu trip. Is relocating something you guys want to do?

Mdrai---it will all be better soon!!!! Relax, take meds if you need them, and heal!!!

Jennifur--enjoy your relaxing by the pool----I want a pool! I just want to be able to have someone else take care of it for me....hmmm a nice cute pool boy!!!! LOL Continued good wishes on the job front!!

All you teachers get a big hug from me, we encountered so many special friends as my kids went through school. I agree it takes a different sort to do the admin junk. Which is the part of our local school system I was so glad to finally be away from! By the end it seemed like some of them were just looking for ways to make kids lose heart and give up. Thank goodness they had the good teachers there to encourage them, and they all made it!!!

Haydee---flour tortillas, can be iffy with me. I try to buy the thinnest ones I can find, they tend to be less doughy. Corn are never an issue....I eat them in chips, or in things like enchiladas--without a single problem. Flour tortillas, if they soak up liquid, seem sto grow....especially in my stomach!!! I still have the occasional burrito---or part of one now, but I really am careful! Good Luck!

As for exercise, I walk most everyday. I also have an eliptical trainer and a treadmill here, but when the weather is nice I prefer to be outside. I too get a lot of exercise keeping the yard in shape, and chasing grandbabies! The coming month is full of uncertainties still, so not going to set any strict goals. Will plan to do all I can when I can.....how's that???!!!!

OK I need to go finish dinner....fun, fun, fun!!!!

Kat

I had a pm from TracyTX that says basically the same thing as Teach posted above. Hope they can fix her problem quickly!

Terri, Yes, I am doing the breathing exercises... am walking (around the house)... have not showered yet (ew) (kinda nervous to, but think I will have to tomorrow or the family will shove me in!)... am getting in my 70 g pro, although very slowly (can take up to 2 hrs to get an 8oz shake down!)... otherwise am drinking, I mean sipping, only water... am getting bloated w/gas all of a sudden (just in my gut, not shoulders)... let's see what else?... am doing NOTHING all day, just the above + resting/dozing/watching movies... and am fine emotionally (so far!). I figure I'm a typical healing bander one day out!

Oh, one thing I found myself doing last night when I couldn't get comfy anywhere so was just laying there... I started telling myself positive affirmations of all the good things I was doing for myself, starting w/the band... I just kept talking to myself (in my head) like I would a friend whom I was proud of for taking this step & why I was proud & how excited I am for her (me) & all that she has to look forward to... kinda weird, I know, but in a good way, I think. I really feel this is such a new, fresh start for me!

And it makes me feel so good to have all you "experienced" Violets to tell me I'm ok!

mdrai - Good for you telling yourself positive stuff. Why not? It really helps not to wallow and to take control over your destiny! I found I slept better in the recliner for a few nights. I do believe we create our destiny through our thoughts, or at least our reactions to life situations are something we do have a say in.

happy healing.........

I also want to get my scuba license, so I am finding out what I have to do to get that. I want my lifestyle to be more active so i will naturally maintain my weight loss when it comes off.

Best wishes,

I want to get that certification too, my daughter started it! She is going to be 13 in July and she is not old enough, or maybe she is and it was a money issue... i don't remember right now, but it was kind of expensive $275 for each of us - so no job and $500...hmmmmmmmmmm that is a no brainer

They offer the certification at my local YMCA.

She also wants to get her lifeguard certification... man she is expensive... but i still love her...

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
