Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Good morning---yep I'm checking on the new bandsters too!!! Denise, DH is calmed down now, and ready to be supportive, you made it through surgery---probably his biggest objection to it was that he was afraid of losing you. Men often times can't say (or maybe don't realize?) what their fear is, so cover it with indifference or anger. Sad that they have been made to be that way....but now that you are out of surgery, and doing so well, he has relaxed and can be happy for you!! I think they are gradually changing some, but back in the day when women didn't work, and men were expected to "take care" of everything but the housework, all the emotion in them got buried I believe. Now it isn't nearly as bad as it used to be, thankfully!!! Our son is much more forthcoming in his emotions than even my DH. He'll talk to me, but to the outside world, he is not very demonstrative with his emotion at all! Too bad they don't know how much it helps to just let it out!!! We are much luckier in that I think!!!

Glad you are feeling good!

Christy---are you wanting more children, or would you be ok if they brought up hysterectomy? I love my hysterectomy as much as I love my band!!!! I have been where you are, and girl, I feel for you!!! Wish I could help.

Ms jen----wooohooo losing those inches!!! That is exactly why I always encourage measurements. When the scale stops for me, the inches start dropping. Sure helps with the doldrums, of the scale being stubborn!

Laura---don't bury those pants too far back in the closet, see!!!!

Jenn--they put Kinsey (my granddaughter) on steroids for 2 days too---waiting to hear how she is. Mine had it on occasion, but not real often. Son used to have to walk him around outside in the COLD air. DD, the steam worked best. Go figure!!! Hugs to your son!

Laura, I use the Syrup, in hot chocolate in the winter, I use it to flavor shakes now, I use it in oatmeal, I use it (for those of you on diet restrictions---forgive me!) to flavor homemade ice cream, frosting for cakes, to make glazes to drizzle over Desserts, I add it in place of some of the milk in vanilla SF pudding mix--to make all different flavors of either pudding or add it to a graham cracker pie crust to make a low cal pie for dessert. I make mixed drinks with them, either with or without alcohol. Add some to ice and whirl in the blender, makes for yummy treats! Since there is no alcohol, they freeze, so you can freeze the syrup, and use in iced tea, to flavor it as the ice melts----peach or raspberry for instance.

Oh yeah----this Fudruckers IS in New Mexico---that's where I live!!!

Also where I better get out and check on the cows.......if I miss the rest of our newbies----welcome to bandland!!! We missed you!!!

Take care all----

You are doing SOOOOOO good!!!

Kat

I'm in BANDLAND!!!!!!!!!!!! It is a bit surreal, but I'm here.

I just walked in the door and dbf literally took everything out of my hands and said.. GO POST! LOL

I had a pretty easy time of it.. I did wake up yesterday about 9:15 a.m. feeling like someone had a party on my tummy, but by 10:00 a.m. I was in my room and with my first dose of pain meds I slept til 3:00 pm I felt good enough to get up and walk around, but I had to have the nurses unhook my leg wraps from the machine..... they were amazed that I was getting my self to the bathroom and even more amazed when dbf got there and we made a lap around the floor.... I'm not going to lie.. my shoulder hurt most of the evening and my stomach is sore..... but I got a look of disbelief when I refused my 6:00 p.m. meds so that I could stay awake to watch my shows! LOL The doc made his rounds around 7:40 p.m. and couldn't believe I refused my meds so he added some pain meds "as needed"........... I did take a dose of morphiene about 10:30, I did have a slight tempt 99.7, and at 2:00 a.m. I woke up hurting and asked for some meds... I was up by 6:00 a.m. and feeling pretty chipper, waiting for my barium swallow... all the nurses that were on the floor were freaking out how well I was getting around....

I asked my doc for pictures and he got them for me. and this morning I had the radiologist turn the screen to face me so I could watch the barium flow through.......... there were 3 of us that got banded yesterday and I seemed to be feeling the best.... I almost felt guilty about it, almost... but I never saw either of them walking the halls or getting regular clothes on... so once again.. this board helped me prepare better than those who didn't know any better.

I was out of the hospital by 9:00 a.m......... and we stopped at Walmart to pick up my liquid pain meds, we actually walked around for the 30 minutes it took to fill it.. and I am a bit pooped right now. I'm drinking some Water and soon I get to go have some Tomato Soup with milk... full liquids til MOnday then I can have thicker puddings and yogurt....

If I feel like it we are going to the movies tonight......

I hope everyone had as good as luck as me, and we will see what the night brings!!!!!!

oh and the firt cup of coffee at the hospital was DIVINE!!!! although it was tiny cup and I was "full" after half of it!

... Last time I brought a skirt it was a size 20 and this is a 16!!! Yeah me. I haven't lost any weight since last week but boy am I losing inches. Last week I measured I was down 8 1/2 inches. I SIMPLY LOVE MY BAND AND ME!!!

Soooo jealous Jen, we got banded the same day! I didn't get measurements but I don't think I could fit into something four sizes smaller from where I'm at. My clothes are just a little bit looser. Not alot though. I get to start eating fish and soft veggies today! Yay! My pains are all completely gone. No incision pain, no gas pains, nothing. I am passing gas like crazy though. Both ends! I used to yell at my sisters for burping in public and now I'm doing it all the time. I get so embarrassed!

Oh one other thing, I noticed blood in my BM this morning. Should I be concerned? I've had been blocked up but I've been drinking prune juice for a few days now. Things are moving but not smoothly. I've been straining. Is this normal? I've never been constipated this bad before!

Congrats Tracy!! Glad to see you made it back safe and sound!!

I was the same way, there were 3 other people (I think they must have all had RNY), and everytime nurses made their rounds, I was alert and active and asking to go home LOL. They kept saying I was the ony one this active and they were surprised, because they've never seen someone so ready to go home just hours after surgery! It didn't speed things along though, they told me since about 2am that night "First thing in the morning you will do the swallow and be discharged", so I thought 5am.. 6am? I never went back to sleep, and every nurse that came in I said 'Any chance I can get this over with and go?' By 9am still no swallow, doctor finally came by and said I could leave around lunchtime (seemed like FOREVER at that point).

Welcome to bandland!!!!!!!

Kat- Ohhh I think there's fudruckers in other places too?? I think I had one in Atlanta.. Where in NM? I was in Albuquerque.. right by the casino on 40.. we would go there every weekend for bingo. I miss it a lot  I DO NOT miss Albuquerque though, I hated the crime.. my car kept getting broken into.

WOOT! Yay Tracy! Happy to hear from you and so glad that all went well! You are exactly right when you say that we are so much more prepared than those who don't know about this site! I really am just so thrilled for you! YOU"RE BANDED, GIRLFRIEND!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I know you think you're "superband girl", but please TAKE IT EASY and REST... use these 4 days to HEAL... have dbf go out & get a movie & watch it at home -- don't push it!!

((hugs))

Chica- I had no regular BM's.. till I guess kind of yesterday. I would have to strain and strain and nothing came out. I finally took prune juice Monday night and had BM's.. then went back to nothing. Yesterday I had my first normal, on my own BM since the surgery. And again today! So I think it just takes time. Rx Pain meds also constipate you..

I'f its bright red it probably is from the straining. Try a stool softner and see if that helps. If it is a lot, call your dr. Make sure you drink lots of water/Crystal Lite, it also moves things and makes it easier. I brought some Fiber wafers to add bulk because I'm not getting the fiber I'm use to yet.

Hang in, you'll get there!

Later I will scan in the pics of my band and my scar stages photo for posting to the appropriate threads.... thanks guys all your positive thoughts are the reason I had a good go of it!

NOW its time to relax...

Oh and if I go to the movies.. it will be here in town.... which means that the theater will be nearly empty and I'm taking my pillow... we want to see "wild hogs" and it is still playing... sweat pants, ponytail, and pillow!

OK now I'm bragging!!! Sorry about that. (yeah right!) :humble:

Ain't life just grand in bandland?:cheer2:

The Pointer Sisters sang it; "I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it...!!!, I ran to my closet and took out all the clothes I was wearing 2 weeks ago and they are all too big. :clap2: So I put them away for a yard sale or something. Went waaaay back into the closet and found 3 suits, 1 of which I have never worn, and in another week I'll be wearing them:wow2:

Last fall, I was giving away small sizes and now I'm looking for them. I'm sooo glad I'm a pack rat and could'nt part with all my favorites.

Gotta go and pickup my forms from the dr so I can return to work next Wednesday. No one has seen me yet.

Congrats Tracy!!! So now that April is almost over we have had no problems as a group? I did read that someone had a slight port infection, that is amazing.

Did everyone have their band placed empty? If so when if your first fill? Mine is the 15th of May which so happens to be my first day back at work!!

Jane

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
