Hi

Glad to see Tracy back, and doing well, hope everyone else is as well. We have a snag here---took DH to his cardiology appointment at 2 today, and I just come in from the hospital-----alone, looks like he will be here or possibly moved to Albuquerque and in until some time next week. Back when they did his open heart surgery, they had to cut down the size of his heart, the back flow of blood had enlarged it. Now it is sending faulty signals. He is bouncing from Atrial Flutter to Atrial Fibrulation---which require opposite treatment, and meds. So he is in, and also on blood thinners, which the gastro is wigging out over because he had a MASSIVE GI bleed following surgery. They hope to thin the blood, sedate him, and pop him with the paddles, and shock him into normal rythm. Until then----I am outta here. Will take my laptop and see if I can pick up a WIFI signal. Hugs and happy healing to all.

All prayers appreciated!

Kat

OMG Kat, I am really praying for your dh!!!!!!!! please please know that there is a little prayer coming from this side of the rockies for him!

Good Evening all!

I have been taking it easy, although we did go visit dfs sister today.. but it was relaxing sitting out on their deck in the warm sunshine. I was a bit pooped when we got home earlier this afternoon, but after I released some gas I felt quite a bit better and scanned in my pics..

I just posted belly shots over on the scar stages thread and I enclosed a link to my BAND shots. (I think I was the first one to request the pics from my doc because he was suprised and thought it was hilarious)

DBF didn't know I did it since it was in the operating room right before I went out.. so when the doc handed them to him.. dbf just shook his head and said... ONLY MY TRACY would ask for pics!

Great pics, Tracy. I have to ask the nurse when I go in on the 8th exactly where my port is. I can't seem to locate it!! And I'm still having a little trouble with the incision between the boobs. It's right at a place where my skin folds and it hurts to get up after I bend over.

And the actual lapband pics.. terrific!! I'd recognize your insides anywhere!! Nice liver!! :biggrin1:

I haven't seen the patient consultant at Dr. Carters office yet. They say since I'm so far away she will call me. I've called twice but no call back.

I did talk to one of the nurses and she said I wasn't eating enough to eat more.:omg: :omg: NEVER tell me to eat MORE!!!

Anyway I guess because they haven't seen me..they set my date for May 30th. We had surgery on the same day didn't we?

I sent you an email but maybe it didn't go through. I missed the monthly meeting. I had appointments all day and couldn't spend the 2 hours there and 2 back.

I'm fighting the hungery bug at every meal. I'm not eating anywhere near what I did but I don't get that full feeling like I did a week ago.

I already am a Shrinking Violet!! ...look under my user name! :)

Teach - that scar that still hurts...between ur boobies might very well be where your port is. That's where mine is and is the only one that is still tender.

Uh, go to the top, click on User CP. Then go to "edit profile". Second box down is "optional information"....and there's a box there where you can put custom info under your name.

Hi all-

Just home for a shower and clean clothes, going to try to catch a few hours sleep. Rick is still having problems, we are walking a tightrope, between treating the heart, and monitoring his bleeding issues. He is still in A fib/A flutter rhythm. The meds will bring it down, but it isn't staying down. I HATE INSURANCE!!!!! Since the meds are controlling it, they say he is non-emergent, so declined the weekend transport to the bigger hospital, so he is in ours, with no cardiologist with privileges. Monday he will be flown out I am told. Right now the only reason I am not throwing a fit every way but Sunday is that the Dr. who saved him with the bleed is here, and doing the anticoagulation, hoping when we get him to ABQ they can perform an ablution (SP?) on it. So on one hand the specialist with the blood is here, and on the other the specialist with the heart is there-----there is 290 miles between the 2. The Gastro here says there will be good gastros there----so looks like Monday we go. Will let you know as I can, of course I am not picking up a signal at the hospital!

Thank you from the tip of my head to the soles of my feet for all the prayers---you are special to me!

Kat

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
