Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Teach- I like the Shrinkin' Violets in your signature, very clever!!

Good mornin all. I wasn't able to sleep last night. I have off and on insomnia, and I didn't think to ask doctor about if I could take my Unisom, so I haven't. It's been building up, it had been harder and harder to sleep lately.. and tonight I wasn't able to sleep AT ALL. It makes me uncomfortable because I know the body needs sleep to heal, plus I'm going to be miserable at work today. It's been a long time since I went without Unisom on nights like this. :)

I'm going to go into work early so I can get off early and hopefully take a nap. I had some grits this morning! Went without incident. But I'm not restricted anymore and it's really bugging me. My stomach is still growling and hungry :):( :(

Actually, I stole... errrrrrrrr borrowed it from Kity. I liked her version better than the one I came up with.

Laura, can you call your doc and see about the Unisom today?? You really need your rest with what your body is going through. Hope you do ok at work today and yes, get that nap in!!

Now that I look at the signature closely and think about it, I hope we don't start shrinkin' THAT way! I'm short enough already!!! YIKES!

I live in Ireland and we dont have GasX strips. From reading your posts these really seem to help a lot. I actually thought I was having a heart attack last night and my DH was really worried about me.

Anyone any advice would be so good. Brenners x

Hi Brenners! Congratulations on getting banded. The surgery is now behind you...that's a good feeling! ....well, it will be as soon as all that stinkin' pain goes away!

Ask your pharmacist what he recommends for relief of gas...I'm sure you have good products there, just not Gas-X. Does anyone have their box handy? What's the main ingredient in Gas-X?? I don't have it here. The heart attack feeling you had is probably a bit of acid reflux and/or indigestion. It would help to sleep propped up until you get a bit farther along.

Hang in there ...it DOES get much better.

Gas-X ingredient that helps gas is Simethicone 125mg in the extra strength tablets.

I can't believe this month is almost over. May is going to be an even better month since our surgeries are behind us.

Kat, I am keeping you and your husband in my prayers. I am sorry that the inlaws are making this even more stressful for you.

I have been feeling guilty for eating mushies, and some solids that I chew til mushie, when I am supposed to still be on full liquids, but I have been starving. I haven't had any restriction or the not hungry feeling from day 2. I see my surgeon this Thursday for my first follow-up appt. and I am afraid he will be angry with me. I just can't handle starvation mode. I am very proud of all of you who have been able to follow your post-op diets. I feel like a failure already.

I think that exercise challenge sounds like a good one! I would like to sign up! Now here comes the million questions!! Sorry to be a bother!!!

1. Is there a special thread for the May Exercise challenge?

2. Tracy thank you so much for sendin those pictures to me, but how do I access that thread, I tried a search and came up with odd things

3. I tried to delete my old 'graph' showing a countdown to the surgery and I can't figure out how to delete it!!!

I am sure more questions will follow, just not real smart when it comes to editing this!!!

Anyways, I also have come to band hell I guess. I am always hungry. I really didn't have any restriction at all. Came home on soft foods (did stay a few extra days in hosp. for hernia), and have had NO problems eating anything, well I did have an incident with a pea, but that is it. My weight loss does look great, but have been at it since August 2006. I think since Mid March I have lost 25 or so pounds.

Now that the worst is over, I would like to thank everyone who has been so so so supportive. I was sooo petrified going into this. Kat with all her wisdom she leant to us was great, open, and inspirational. Tracy, you have been a great supporter of this board and will always appreciate your kind words and encouragment!! I know all this sounds schmaltzy, but it is true!!! Thank you to EVERYONE HERE for making this a place where we feel free to discuss our deepest and our shallowest fears!!

Thanks again,

Jane

Good Morning My Violet Sistas (and any Bros out there too),

I just wanted to say hello to everyone. The last day of April...wow, it has been a long and busy month for us all!

Terri- please tell us more about the May exercise challenge. I saw that you exceeded your goal!!! Way to go! Can I ask, what are you doing exercise wise?

I am having a hard time dragging my butt out of bed at 4:30am. I tell myself every night, "just do it" (thanks Nike), but then the alarm goes off and I wanna die. I've noticed with just the 23 I've lost (hasn't changed in 2 weeks) that my skin is starting to feel loose. Has anyone else felt that too? That scares me a lot. I need to do some exercise quick. I am trying to schedule in some after school on Wed and Thurs, but my calendar fills up quick. I know I seem to be making excuses...just looking forward to summer!

Also, I just started soft food this past Saturday. But I am finding that I can eat ANYTHING. I am not allowing myself Pasta, bread or rice, but anything else goes. I get "full" faster, but also hungrier faster. I am wondering what everyone else is eating at this stage?

Kat- Stay strong!!! God only gives you what He knows you can handle!

Tracy- Hope day 1 back goes well!

Sara- Don't work too hard, and don't forget to pop on LBT and say Hi!

Judy- Let us know when the new thread is up! How exciting! Thanks for doing this! Congrats on your weight loss...and on your new charm. I am afraid that mine will only have the one on it until I get a fill:phanvan

Have a great day! I just finished my Protein Shake this morning. I blended a banana, frozen berries, yougart, Unjury and milk.. It was soooo good, I haven't had a banana in a month and a half!!!:clap2:

I didn't have a BM till 5 days after surgery.. and it was barely anything.. 2 more days passed so I drank about 2 cups of prune juice (never had it before, was skeptical, so drank quite a bit straight from a big bottle I made DF go get me)..within an hour, I was on the toilet on and off for a while. Since then I have kept the juice in fridge 'in case', but my BM's have finally started to become regular.

I put Fiber Sure in my yogurt twice a day. I also drank some prune juice yesterday and it worked today. In the book by Dr. Ortiz it says that BM's can be as much as 3-6 days apart. I was getting worried, but things started moving today. I just finished another glass of prune juice. Only bad thing is, it's 180 calories a glass!!!

Good morning SHRINK'N VIOLETS ,

Well, the weight loss has stopped because I have been eating more. Regular foods, I am hungry both in my head and in my body. The amounts are still smaller, but I am struggling.

Today I commit to:

1) logging my food

2) exercise

3) writing in my pain journal

4) weighing in

I will do those things, I can do this, I just have to STAY the COURSE and not give in to lifetime habits of self indulgence.

All that said, have a wonderful day. Let's do a gratitude list and number one is my band. I have a tool that will help me enable my goal of health and vitality.

Well I'm better now.. (a bit) I did go.. although I would of looked funny doing some kind of yoga looking stretch (hands straight up over my head) and deep breathing... LOL but it worked. I also had a gasX strip.

I can go home for lunch and today I think I'm going to do it and lay back in my recliner for half hour.

Hi I have signal at the hospital---will check in to stave off my boredom as we wait for Dr.'s.....I will be reading up on all of you---man I have pages and pages to go through---I love this groups excitement, and support of one another!!!

All too often, you find threads, where the participants think that just because they had a certain experience, or were on a certain diet, that that is the ONLY way it should be, and it feels argumentive, I like how you all are having different experiences, and simply provide support---you don't pick apart another Dr.'s way of doing things. I am thinking, maybe this is the way adults behave???!!!!!

Ok, off to read up on everyone elses life, I have been living with blinders on.

Kat

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
