Just a reminder.. Until the first fill, the goal is NOT to lose weight!! We likely will due to the diet we're on, but if you hit a 'plateau' do not get disappointed.. you're not even suppose to be losing yet!

Teach-And on that note, you could be losing inches instead of lbs. But don't worry about it yet! Wait till the first fill!

About the person with sex- Eek. I looked how far out you are and I'm a little disappointed, I heard 5-6 days.. Which is tomorrow for me, and I don't think I'd be ready yet. All of my incisions still ache and 'pull' when I move around.

Jennifur- Lucky! I hate milk, but I'd love the texture right now LOL. I can't have any normal liquids for another week. I've been taking Flintstone Vitamins, if I wasn't I know I'd be malnutritioned right now. I have NOT been 'hungry' since operation yet. I get reminded I need food when my stomach is growling and I get tired.. so I have Soup or popsicles etc. Only thing that is bad, is I get cravings.. all in my head I know, because I try to substitute it with something I can have, and then I'm not hungry anymore. It's the damn tv really. Every tv show, every commercial break (I have TiVo and ffwd, but I still keep seeing pizzas and applebees', etc.) and then I go 'I want that in my mouth!'. I hate pizza, and lately I've been wanting a slice just to much on. Crazy stuff. My head needs to catch up with my stomach.

My first fill won't be until 8 week post op so that puts it at June 5. Hopefully I can hold out til then. I really have been doing well. No cheats and following the diet by the book. I wrote in my journal today that I'm not weighing in again until Tuesday so we'll see if I can stick to that!

Tomorrow night we are going out for a family birthday. My son's 29th birthday was Wednesday and my daughter's 25th was Thursday. (I know, I know, I'm OLD!!) We're going to Applebees and I figure I can have a fruit smoothie.. shouldn't be too bad, right?? And I'm positive I won't be able to finish it. If they have a brothy Soup I'll have that, but usually their Soups are creamy ones and I'll be three days away from allowing that in my diet.

Hey everyone, went on my first adventure today, took my aunt to the bank and Walmart, unfortunately my 3 year old came with us and he helped me lift him but i still had to do a little work. Kind of tired but ok.

SO HERE IS THE BIG PROBLEM - I can't really eat but after walking in walmart by the deli and bakery, I am head hungry, ok not hungry STARVING!

Lauraj23 - I am not a milk drinker either but I'll take it for the change. It is hard for me to drink and I'm having a tough time with it, I had a large thing of Jello this am and about 10oz of Water, and now i'm going to have some broth and a popsicle. Water is just not setting but everything esle seems to be ok, I don't get it.

Tracy - I bought a motorcycle 2 years ago, don't get out much with 3 year old. my dbf was in a horrible accident and we thought he was dead on October 5, 2006 - so my mom gives me so much crapola about it. He was hit while stopped, someone pulled out of a parking lot and the sun was in his eyes and slammed into him. That could happen if you were walking down the street. Anyway, point being, I GET IT

Teach- but remember the 'diet' you're on right now, is not a diet diet.. It's a healing diet. Just keep that in mind :) Don't get disappointed between now and June 5. You still have more to look forward to!

Also, we have an applebee's beside our house that we use to frequent often.. they do have a 'weight watchers' version of french onion Soup if you like that. It's very brothy, and you can ask for that, ask them to strain the onions and don't put the crouton/cheese on top.

Jennifur- Same as me! Water is the hardest thing for me to get down. Soup and popsicles are fine. Jell-o is a little hard sometimes.

I read on another thread somewhere, someone mentioned PMSing can add a couple pounds. Well since they made me go off my birth control, I have a messed up 'cycle'. I will bleed heavily for months and months without stop, if I'm not on the pill. Well I stopped taking them a week pre-op, and spotted.. the DAY of surgery (I'm so lucky...not!!) I started bleeding heavily and it has not let up sense. I called to ask when I can get back on them, they said 2 weeks.. so I have another week and a few days, plus 4-5 days for the meds to start working. :)

I don't let myself have periods anymore, I take my B/c back-to-back, so I'm not use to this anymore. Anyone have any insight on the difference your body feels like while PMSing with band and not PMSing with band? I've been tired a lot, and I think it's from the band, but it dawned on me it could be because I'm PMSing too.

Dear All,

Terry....:sick Hungover????? I had the hangover from HELL today!! I had to take meds twice, Oooooooo why did I drink so much last night??? I said to Dave, was I ok? He said yes, just drunk Sara...Im so embarrased! Trouble is, with not eating properly and not drinking, (and it was the red wine that went down with Noooooooo problem unike the food!) it doesnt take much to get pickled.....

Pam, your food choice sounded good too, I found eating salmon with a lot of sauce was ok.

Tracy, so were all the tests ok that you had? Sorry to hear about the e-mail incident re your mum....

Laura, Jennifur hopefully the burping situation will ease, mind you, when you do start to eat mushies in time, it can happen then, I went out for lunch today (it was my last day at ne of the places Im seconded into) & I had a baked potatoe & cheese & Beans, so I mashed the potatoe up, had the melted cheese on it which had solidified, and I found it hard to eat (I know it was the cheese) and I ended up burping a lot (quietly) I guess its trial and error....

Love Sara xx

Tracey - I had a very annoying mother who was pretty much critical of everything I or my kids did. We moved eight hours away and things got better but she still ragged on my sibblings and their families. Anyhow . . . a year ago last February she had a massive stroke . . . parallized left side of her body . . . speech impairment . . . personality change. She is gentle and childlike now but I miss my old mom. All this to say, love the mom you got because you never know when everything could change.

Gotta go walk, 5th day straight of walking, 2 weeks till liquids only, a new beginning!

It takes almost a day to read all the postings here! Subjects from golf balls to sex have been covered. From mothers to starvation. I am overwhelmed by the wonderful, eclectic style of this strand. Go April!

Did anyone come up with a name yet? I thought about the April Fools, but some might be offended. I am four days out, feel pretty good and have experienced most of what has been described. The dizziness I believe is from lack of hydration or Protein. Retraining eating habits is really hard work, but I am finding that with my body reminding me (sometimes not so gently) I'll get there. Yeah bands, what would we do without them?

Hugs and good wishes to all you April Bandsters,

Michelle

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
