Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

I guess I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop! I sailed through the surgery, never had any pain to speak of and no gas pain at all. I am sticking to my liquid diet.. have another week of Clear Liquids before I hit all liquids for 2 weeks and just look forward to adding foods back in, in moderation. I wanted this surgery so badly and am just thrilled that I finally got it and look forward to dropping the pounds. Remember.. attitude is 90% of the battle!!!

Can anyone tell me if it is ok to eat peanut butter.:guess Or does it get stuck? Thank you Stacey

The nurse that went over the diet with me said no Peanut Butter because it can get stuck and have trouble moving through the pouch. I remember it b/c PB is one of my all time favorites. Sorry! :phanvan

Hi again!

Well I went to see Jennifer this evening, and she looks great!

We had an awesome surgeon and her incisions look awesome!

We walked around the ward 2 times while I was there to help her try to relieve some gas to get rid of the shoulder pain.

She is in some discomfort from the surgery, but they are keeping her pretty doped up :)

Just wanted to let you all know how awesome she is doing, and she can't wait to go home tomorrow :)

Well, I went back to work today...wow, 8th graders w/ only 8 weeks left of school...NEED I SAY MORE. They were rough on me, but after a vacation and a sub the week before, I guess it could've been worse. EVERYONE said I looked great...which felt soo good to hear. I had a 12 and a half hour day today, am exhausted, but actually...with the weight loss so far, I still feel better than ever. I can't figure out the ticker thingy and am tired of trying so every so often, I will post here.

DO NOT READ IF YOUR STARVING ON YOUR PREOP DIET...SORRY

I have a question for my band sisters that were banded around my time (or before that too). What are you eating on the puree stage. Today I had (all of the following were measured)

1/4 c. chix salad (blended)

1/2 c. cott cheese

1/2 c. egg salad

1/2 c. mashed pot.

I also had a Protein Shake for Breakfast, Protein coffee, and protein tea.

What do you all think. Is this too much? All of the above were eaten every 2-3 hours, and the 1/2 cups were eaten in 2 different sittings. I honestly want to know what your eating. I am gonna have 2 artichoke hearts now!

Hi Pam,

Re: Diet

Ok yesterday I had:

B'fast: 1 Weetabix/milk/sweetner

Lunch: Ice lolly (not typical!) normally I'd have Soup

Dinner:

Corn beef hash: serves 2 meals

In a small bread tin add:

1. Baked Beans (3 tbls)

2.1/2 inch thick slice of corned beef (Place over beans-2 slices will cover the tin)

3. Cover with a thin layer of mashed potatoe

Bake until slightly crisp on the top: This is mushie but very tasty food!

Snack: Will have a low fat rice pot, or yougart with a pured fruit drizzled over it.

The other main meal could be ground mince beef in a tomatoe sauce over mashed potatoe. Were talking small amonts (2 tbls spoons of mash, 2 of mince)

Hi there, just to let you all know that I was scheduled to have my op on Thursday 26th April. I got a call this morning from the clinic to see if I wanted to have it done 2 days earlier on Tues 24th April, so I agreed! I cant believe that this time next week I will be banded! I am up to ninety!

Anyway I hope all of you who have recently been banded are doing great and any last minute tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Sarah,

I appreciate you "filling me in". It sounded yummy! I am still on puree'd food, so I not quite ready for meat like that. He said, "tuna, chicken, but blended and very moist." But I like your menu better.

I am supposed to eat 3-5 small meals a day, but after about 4-5 small bites I am full, then hungry again in about 2-3 hours. What is hard is Mon and Tues I have these long days, and I have to pack all of the food, really it is breakfast, lunch, dinner and Snacks. That is a pain in the butt for sure. Still looking for others at this stage...WHAT ARE YOU EATING?

Still looking for others at this stage...WHAT ARE YOU EATING?

I'm definitely in a rut, but I just wanna get thru this next two weeks without breaking any bandster rules. I'm supposed to be eating mushie baby-food type things, with the exception of fish, eggs and well-cooked vegetables. I will just give you a list of things I've been eating:

1) Cottage cheese - every day - sometimes 2x a day. I puree 4 strawberries or canned pears, 1/2 c cot. cheese, 3 pkts of splenda...mix together. YUM

2) 1 c. Broccoli cheese Soup from Quizno's or Jason's. I also enjoy the Campbell's "Select Gold" Soups (or whatever they're called...come in a box container) but I make them a bit richer by adding some half & half and a bit of butter.

3) Vegetable tofu & egg drop soup mixed together from my fav. chinese restaurant. Generally I don't like tofu, but I don't mind it in soups and it adds Protein.< /p>

4) Homemade smoothies - berries, 1/3 banana, yogurt, scoop of unflavored protein, raspberry ice Crystal Light for added flavor & ice. Whirred around in my magic bullet.

5) Baked tilapia, mashed potatoes and canned green Beans (about once every 3 days)

6) 2 scrambled eggs made with half-n-half and butter fills me up like crazy. I love 'em for a quick dinner.< /p>

7) Today I brought a beautiful, ripe avocado to have as a snack. Just sprinkle w/ salt! Very good for you.

8) Cream of wheat (cooked, not instant) with butter, cinnamon and DaVinci SF praline Syrup. Also add some unflavored protein to this.

I track what I eat on on www.fitday.com and transfer the data to my journal here on LBT if you want to see what kind of calories I'm eating. Sounds to me like you aren't getting very many! I'm supposed to be shooting for 1000-1200 but I haven't made it yet.

That's about it for me. I'd kill for an Asian chicken salad from Panera right now...but I'll have to wait!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
