Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi Everybody...

I'm just getting ready to go & wanted to say thanks & good luck to all of us this week... I won't be able to get back on air until at least thursday when I get home (I'm flying to Manchester)

Anyway, I caught a cold fri night & I still kinda of have it so don't be surprised if I arrive back early with no band...OMG

Also I am spending my "last night" in a hotel as I have had a major fight with DH & I can't be around the house, so I left the house & we haven't even parted well or said goodbye. GREAT

good luck you all..xx

Ditto to everything Pamela (Kity) said!!!

Ok, well, i was going to wait 'til I finished this WONDERFUL book i am reading to tell ya'll more about it, but I can't wait. The book is written by a life coach and talks about how to make lasting change. The topic of attitude is really important and I love this part of the book that covers that topic:

"...The benefits of where you're headed need to be clear. Just as you need a powerful 'what', you need a meaningful 'why'. [define your goal and be clear on your motivation.] A strongly emotional why makes meaning out of the drudgery you may have to go through and gives you a reason to persist. In thinking about your 'why', muse on this: why you may have been pushed into action by hitting bottom, ultimately you need something positive that you want to go toward.

That's the insight from organizational consultant Robert Fritz, who's made it his life work to study conscious change. Fritz discovered that while we can motivate ourselves in the short run to make changes by scaring ourselves--I've got to stop smoking or i'll die--in the long run, we must be headed toward something positive we want to create: I want to live long enough to see my daughter's children; I want to be free from addiction, etc. That's because when we motivate ourselves positively we are operating in the same way as the forces for creation in the natural world and thereby increase the possibility of success. Fritz is no New Age flake; his ideas are firmly rooted in the laws of physics. If you are interested in learning more, dip into his book, The Path of Least Resistance.

Psychologists have discovered a similar thing. Trying consciously to remove a negative mental image or habit actually reinforces it. That's because if you give yourslf a command such as "Don't think of donuts," there's actually a part of the brain that is trying to obey by constantly scanning ("Are you thinkiing about donuts now? How about now?"), which of course results in you constantly thinking about the very thing you've vowed not to. But if you create a positive image of what you want to go toward, that's what the brain begins scanning for instead.

Finding positive motivation also engages your emotional brain to work FOR the change, not against it. It is the nature of the emotional brain to seek pleasure. So the more emotionally pleasurable your positive motivation, the more it will help you achieve your goal...."

This is from the book, [ame=http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/0767920082/ref=s9_asin_title_1-hf_favarsnfggenpx_2267_p/104-7375875-5443924?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=046HX1NNXNNT3DJBRDSE&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=278240701&pf_rd_i=507846]This Year I Will...How to finally change a habit, keep a Resolution, or make a Dream Come True by M.J. Ryan[/ame] .

If anything from the passage above resonates with you, I suggest you read this book....it is SO hitting home for me. I am PUMPED!!!

Tammy

I only have to do a liquid diet today, 1 day before surgery but Clear Liquids for 2 weeks post, i have been ok this morning but starting to get hungry.

I also have seen many people go home same day but i have an overnight in the hospital. Everyone seems to be a little different. Some are already going back to work and my surgeon will keep you home up to 6 weeks depending on what you want. I personally will be going to class 3 days later and saw someone had surgery wed and going back to work tomorrow, so everyone is different.

I will keep everyone posted on how that works out wed. LOL

Lunasa

I am so sorry my dbf is being a pia today too and I just decided I can't even think about it or deal with it because I need to be in a good place this am. Maybe once i get my confidence back in myself i'll hit the high road there.

Hugs and my thought are with you tomorrow

Tracy - from the sounds of that support group it's no wonder they're not doing well.

They need SUPPORT not a pityparty.

Has anyone else not had to go on a pre-op diet?

I will be doing liquids for 2 days post op but i read so many threads that talk about liquids for a week or so to shrink the liver.

How soon has anyone returned back to work after surgery?

Anyone stay overnight at the hospital?

I start my pre-op test all on thursday. this has just all gone soooo fast. In a huge way I'm thankful for not having more time to think about it.

A week from Tuesday for ME and I'm banded!

No pre-op diet for me. I don't know why but it's very different; from some docs. who tell you to go on a liquid diet for one or two weeks, to the ones that won't put you in a pre-op diet what so ever.

I took 1 1/2 week off work, and I stongly recommend you to take at least a week. You are going to feel a lot of discomfort and very tired that first week.

I didn't stay overnight at the hospital, mine was an outpatient procedure, and I stayed at the surgery center for around 4 hrs. Good luck for you next week, I bet you can't wait:D

Can anyone please explain the charm Bracelet to me. First time for me to hear about it. Thank you Stacey:help:

Here's the charm bracelet I opted for. I'm going to get a silver charm for each 10# and a two tone for 25, 50, 75# and then a gold for 80# GOAL!! I got the silver bracelet with the gold fastener. It's a neat reminder on my wrist of all that I have accomplished and all that is in my future!!

I'll be on clear liquids for a week, more liquids (but not clear) for week 2, puree for week 3 and then finally softs for week 4. It won't be so bad. I've got lots of leftover Protein Drinks from my days at medical weight loss and they're pretty tasty. I'm actually looking forward to not eating - can you believe it?

OK as the day goes by i'm going through different thoughts. I just did a written statement saying that I want my kids to go to my mom if anything happens tomorrow and that sent me into a tizzy. I know everything is going to be great but there are fears, like others say, I worry about what my children would do without me and if they would know how much they mean to me, which is the world and why i want to be healthy, for them.

It is snowing, sleeting, and just plain yucky outside so I can't really even get out to keep my mind occupied. I am going to do a little homework but I just can't even seem to focus on that.

I had some black bean Soup for lunch but starting to feel sick to my stomach with nerves so I don't know if i could eat anymore if I wanted to.

and then there is the DBF who is who knows where right now - but not here for me when I really need him

HELP! How can i calm down, anyone have any suggestions. I am getting myself all worked up!

I can't believe I am saying this but Tuesday morning I will have the surgery!!! I am kind of nervous!! Will do taxes today and some work stuff, clean house etc...

Last night I couldn't sleep wrote some thank you notes, took my mind off of things for a while. I feel like I am going into this with only a 1% chance of survival. I don't know why I am so negative, it is not the first surgery I have had, and certainly not the most serious. I don't think I am worried about the lap band, or the hernia which they are doing at the same time, but just the fact of going out again. I feel like I have been given many chances to get my life right, and I have screwed them up and haven't made the most of what I have been given...Crazy huh, I feel like I can open up here because you know what is coming.

I actually feel a little better getting this off my chest, maybe I will finish up my taxes and do my city tax license for work...

Sorry if I am negative....

Jane

Jane

how funny, as we just both posted the same thoughts at the same time. I had my tubes tied 3 years ago and I was the same way the day before and the morning of. Kind of silly but I think having all this time to think about it makes these thougths come to the surface, because honestly, the EMERGENCY c-section I had to have with being put under for that was much more dangerous and risky situation than this.

It will all be good!

...anyone hear the buzz about Courtney Love?...rumers she had the lap band surgery...

I saw some pictures o fher in a bikini, and she is skinny-mini and I could easily see 4 or 5 tiny scars, like what you would see on anyone who had laproscopic procedure.... but wonder if the images were a little photoshopped. Just cuz if youa re keeping it a secret, why wear the bikini? Then again, Satrr Jones wore a bikini and let her scars show, and she was keeping it a secret, too! You are right... we'll never know.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
