Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Ok, now I'm getting a tad bit nervous!! When I called my insurance, they never said anything about needing a diet history, supervised diet or anything like that. They told me I need a letter from my PCP (got it!!) a letter from the surgeon, a psych eval and a NUT consult (waiting on appointment dates). Now I'm worried that after I submit all this to the insurance they will come back and ask for more information!! (They said they wont make a determination until all info is sent in.)

:faint:

Your Breakfast sounds so good this morning Tracey!!! Keep up the good work and you'll make your surgery weight goal in no time!! :clap2:

I have bcbs federal insurance and they donot require the 6 months of supervised diet...I was told by my doctor that it's the only insurance company out there like that....all others require it....do you have blue cross federal coverage?

YEAH BECKY!!! another band twin for me!

and Terri.. you are so right. This place is my sanctuary.... my venting place, my escape, my information sharing link. I have learned so much from these boards, and it is my hope that over the next year we will all keep up with this thread and keep encouraging others in our efforts to lose.

Which ones of us will be the ones that lose like rabbits, which ones will be turtles, which ones will end up loving EXERCISE and who will still hate it with a passion......... time will tell.

We all have a journey to take, and here is our meeting place to talk about them together.

Sara & Panda -- Ya'll are both such beautiful women!! I cannot wait to watch you bloom! This is gonna be a FUN ride!

Lunasa - Let me know what you think of the book, OK? I'm glad to have someone to bounce the ideas off of...maybe we can 'work it' together!

And....BTW....I definitely agree that each of us should try to remember to say a little prayer every morning for our April sisters (and brothers). That would mean a lot to me!

Hi guys! I haven't written in a couple of days because I am so disappointed in myself! I thought that since when I was at home the Preop diet was going so well I would be able to continue that on my vacation. Well the complete opposite has happened. Now I am afraid that when I go in for surgery on Tuesday my Dr is going to say GO HOME! You didnt stay on your liquid diet!! I feel like such a failure!! Any advice? Thanks for a safe place to unload my feelings!

Don't sweat my pet!! My dr told me yeserday that one of the reasons you have the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver and you can be three days before surgery and it will make a difference. Just start back and do everything by the letter and hopefully everything will be ok.

OK--so I'm not the only one, but I am closer than three days to surgery...tonight I had some eggdrop soup/with some of those little crunchy noodles in it. Is there any repair to the damage for me???? This is the 31st, and my surgery is on the 2nd, at7:30 a.m.??? Please send advice...I'm starving (Ithink), so I'm on here to distract myself from futher damage!!

The pre-op diet is for your benefit, health, and safety. It really wasn't THAT good!!! ( you know "Do what I say -- not what I do")

my doctor has not put me on any type of pre-op diet. I'm going to do one anyways three days before surgery. I read somewhere that three days is enough for your liver to go down. anyways, my question is how bad would it be if i had mexican food the night before my surgery. I know I'm not supposed to eat after midnight but i'm talking about 7pm. Will that affect my liver in such a short period of time? I'm being banded in Monterrey MX, never been there and my sister can't stop talking about this Mexican restaurant that I have to try. That's why I'm asking....

Thanks!

My liquid pre-op diet is only 3 days before hand. They told me to reduce salt and sugar NOW to shrink my liver (it is 9.4cm and they said over 10cm is a high risk of having to do open surgery..eeeeek)1 week out I am to do a SSS diet.. Soup, salad, sandwhiches.. Then 3 days prior, liquid diet, and day before Protein Shakes and magnesium citrate only (Can't wait for that 3 hour drive on magnesium..). I have been on my no sugar/no salt diet since I guess 2 days ago, and since I normally drink 6-8 mt. dews (diet? whats that?) it's been rough. Gave up cokes cold turkey, if I drink diet drinks, I will end up wanting the real thing. Never been a fan of diet drinks. So I've been drinking a lot of crystal light and Water. Never looked at sodium before, never had a doctor tell me to monitor it, so this is new for me. Odd how much sodium stuff has in it..

Please Help

I'm looking around online for the super comprehensive list of what to bring to the hospital and what to have around post surgery. I can't find it!! Grrr... Can someone help me locate it?

All I remember is "toilet tongs." I just remember that because I'm immature and I thought that it was funny!

It was a great list that a couple of different groups added to.. Where, oh where can it be?

Welcome JO and everyone else!!!!

I just took my before pics, since I am set to start my pre-op tomorrow

OMG they are bad....... I am shaped so funny now, but I plan to take a set every month.

I challenge everyone to take their measurements and take a set of pics. (I set my self timer on the camera, set it on the chest drawers and then cropped it down)

I plan to take my pics in the same outfit, so that I can really gage the differences.

I think the main thing to get is all your

SF liquids,

Liquid adult strenght tylenol,

heating pad, and

stretchy clothes

I have also joined the April 06'rs exercise challenge for April and today I will be taking my first 30 minute walk.

Have a great day, and I'll check in later.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
