how has your surgery changed your life?

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm Jenn. I started off at 383 Nov. 2011. Feb. 2012 I called and made the initial consult appt. I stopped drinking iced tea and dropped 10 pounds in a week. When I weighed In for the first time I was 375. I started the workup process and needed to be done to 350 before the doctor would do the surgery. It was terrible! I mean if I was able to lose weight I wouldn't be having the surgery! Well I did it! Aug. 27th was the surgery and I was 350. I go to the gym 3-4 times a week and do mostly cardio with some weights to tone up as I'm loosing. So 5 months post op and as of last Monday I weighed 265. I went from a size 30-32 jeans and shirts to a size 20 jeans and a XL shirt. I feel great! I look fantastic! I have 78 more pounds to lose but I'm getting my life back. I'm almost off disability, I'm a full-time college student and I just got a job! First one since becoming disabled in 2005.

I can go over to anyone house and find clothes to borrow. I never was able to do that with friends and/or family! I get hit on a lot and people actually say I'm small or skinny at 196 pounds!! Lol. I can't wait to lose another 50!! I grew up hearing don't eat all of that or your eating too much. Now, people are begging me to eat. So weird!!

Thanks alot! :-)

My eating habits suck! Im lucky if i manage to consume 1000 calories a day. I drinking protien anything, and my hair has suffered as a result. Thats the truth.

Im trying to correct these little issues. Now i track my eating,i try to eat as health as i can. I've to live without rice and bread. ( which is hard because im from the carribean and meal is not complete without rice.) I drink a lot lot Water. I walk at least 4 times a week. I NEVER weigh my self because I refuse to be a slave to the scale, i measure my success by the fit of my clothes. Thats it. Im down to 270 from 375. Im on my way to wearing a size 16 from a size 30-32. My health has greatly improved. And I'm only 5 months post op.

I'm pretty much at your starting weight and size, so your results are truly inspirational! I'm scheduling my sleep study tomorrow, and I have my psych evaluation next week. Can't wait until surgery.

I'm still freshly into this, at 9 weeks post op. I have lost 40lbs, from 234 to 194. I was blessed not to have any medical issues prior to surgery, just being obese. So when I noticed that now I can bend over to tie my shoes and not get a head rush, that was great. To then be able to see the hoo-ha, another great moment, I missed her! LOL Sitting down and being able to cross my legs like a woman, instead of only at the ankles, huge bonus! I can only imagine how great it will be when I lose another 70lbs! I have not officially gone clothes shopping, as I have a large closet full of clothes over the years that I "grew out of", so I have been rocking some jeans and slacks I haven't seen in 8 years! Oh and I got on the treadmill the other day and instead of my heart rate bouncing around the 170 mark, it was at a very nice 130 mark, so my heart is not stressing itself to power this fat ass anymore!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
