Honestly, You need to bring very little with you. Your cell phone and charger, chapstick, wear comfy clothes there and you can wear those back home. I had a nook tablet (didn't use it) had my laptop (didn't use it) had some pajama pants (didn't use them) underware (didn't use them) everything you need is pretty much supplied. I used the hospital gowns and used one backwards as a robe when walking the halls. I watched very little TV. I just couldn't concentrate long enough on anything.

If you aren't resting and sipping, you are walking or sleeping.

I just finished taking everything out of my bag and none of it was used.

If you have a ways to go bring a small pillow for you belly.

If you can only sleep with a certain pillow bring that, I did and I used it. Just don't forget it lol.

Wishing you the very best

I went in on Wednesday for surgery and came home Sunday afternoon. That is a couple days longer than a lot of people. But I had three surgeries in one, band removed, rny and ovary removed. Also I am not one to beg to go home. I like the hospital, I know that is silly but I really don't mind it. So even being in there extra days I didn't need much.

I think the hospital will give him a pillow and a blanket, and they probably have a chair or couch that pulls out in the room for him to sleep on. You might just call the hospital and ask if they do. My room did.

The only thing I brought with me was my cell phone and charger, I wore big sweat pants and top in and wore them out. Toothbrush, toothpaste, etc. etc. all is provided for you. You may want to stay in the hospital gown, its easier for your doctor to check you. Pants will rub on your incision.

I didn't bring any electronics not even my cell phone. I needed the rest (my children are grown) and just told eveeryone if it is really important call the hospital phone. I didn't feel like keeping track of everything. I let the hospital supply all my other needsand only had the outfit I came in and went home in it, too! Although I showered once in the hospital, I really enjoyed the shower I took when I came home from the hospital! Bliss!

I work in a hospital. Word of warning... Some hospital's toothpaste and toothbrushes are awful. The paste tastes like chalk, and the brush's bristles fall off in your mouth. On my unit, we only provide generic deodorant and mouth wash, cherry chap stick, baby lotion, dial soap and baby shampoo- no conditioner. hair brushes are basic, if they have them at all. Check if you have showers in the room, if not have a pair of plastic flip flops handy. Use the non slip socks in the hospital, and for god sakes throw them away when you are discharged. I work in a psych ward and the people who wear their own slippers and who probably don't wash them when they get home are asking for trouble. Hospital floors, even in non medical areas are SUPER nasty. There is no five second rule for anything there! Workers, visitors, staff, track things all over. Don't bring more than two outfits of clothes, Leave jewelry at home. Forget your makeup, bring hair ties if you need them. Bring stuff to read, write, or things to occupy your time. Glasses are better than contacts. Check to see if you should bring your medications with you or just a list. Some hospitals will not let you bring in your own pillows or blankets so check if you can (because of bed bugs.)

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
