My dream seems to becoming a reality. It looks like I will have my surgery before the end of November 2012. This confirms for me that its no longer a dream, but a reality, and now I have such mixed emotions. I am so excited, yet I am also scared. I know I'm ready, and I know I want and need this gift and I know I'm in this for the long haul, and ere is no turning back, but for some reason I am scared. My head just can seem to comprehend the tiny amounts of food that I will be eating! I have researched all the options extensively, so I know RNY is the right choice for me, and my surgeon agrees. Is it normal to be scared?

I think it would be abnormal if you weren't scared. This is a life changing decision, a good one, but changing none the less., You are going to go through ever emotion in the world. Before and probably after surgery, Just take it one baby step at a time. My surgery is this Wednesday and I feel a bit numb today, I go from scared, to excited, to numb, to nervous, to happy, to sad, back to numb.

Thanks Vicky. I will be working with my therapists so I have professional support to help me deal with all the emotions. I'm so excited.

How are you managing with the pre op diet I'm so worried about the broth part. How will I survive!

well i have to admit my two week diet hasn't been that bad, i am allowed two Protein Shakes a day and a meat and no carb veggie for dinner. I haven't really had anything besides Protein shakes, fat free refried Beans, tuna salad, yogurt with protein. I am just not hungry so I haven't done bad at all. On tuesday day before surgery it is clear liguids I think that day will be rough, that will be broth Jello ect. but just one day, I can handle it. So far today I have had Decaf coffee with protein and now eating some yogurt with protein i will probably eat some tuna for dinner. and then another yogurt before bed.

I feel the exact same way. My decision visit was last Friday. I made the decision for the RNY and I know it is the right one, but I'm afraid. Every part of my life will change. There are some parts of the change that scare me, some that excite me, and some flip sides every day. I can't speak from experience as I'm not there yet, but I have faith that all the stuff I'm afraid of... Like never sitting down to a Thanksgiving dinner again... Will seem unimportant as I get healthy. Speaking of Thanksgiving, I'm hoping for a December surgery. I have told my fam this thanksgiving is my own "last supper." Good luck. Fears are normal with any major change in life. Keep the faith!

I too made Thanksgiving my last supper. I have been this way for too long. I can't keep this way. I have been to my drs last week he wants me to lose 16 lbs, do my preop stuff and get clearance before they schedule me for surgery. But I did ask the nurse about how far out the surgery dates and she said about a month. I hope to at least get my date before Christmas so I have a wonderful gift to look forward to. I must admit I am nervous, excited, worried what willy body react to surgery, Etc.

The mixed emotions continue after surgery as well. I live by myself over 1,000miles from home so friends usually have me over for holiday meals. I was on pureed foods so i stayed home. I was depressed and felt cheated out of that social time. I'm always excited for the new me but mourn the loss of my old, comforting friend...food.

Hello everyone! I have been browsing this site for a while and have found comfort in learning that others share similar feelings to those that I have experienced this year. Thank you for sharing! I am 12 weeks post op and feel great! I too found comfort in food through the years but as good as chocolate and Cookies are, they pale in comparison to how I feel now. 60 pounds gone and no more knee or foot pain! Besides that, the benefit of dropping several sizes feels pretty darn good too! I do not feel deprived. When one thing changes, you have to rethink everything. I was nervous too when I started this journey. Hang in there! Take one day at a time. Good days are ahead of you!

Thanks for the words of encouragement. It's been so nice when I post something that's maybe bothering me everyone is so overwhelmingly supportive. Thank you. I know his I'd a journey and it didn't happen overnight so I have to be ok with the fact it won't be done overnight.

Oh btw I have my preop X-rays this Thursday and then I can see my dr to clear me and then they can push for my auth. So excited.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
