Bowel Problems, I Need Advice Please

Recommended Posts

I went through this for several months post-op. tried multiple laxatives, stool softners, teas etcall laxatives work as do enemas and suppositories but really you don't want to be totally dependent on them. Exercise helps and more Water but neither of them helped me except Miralax which I take daily. It is a different type of laxative which I drink in my evening tea. It may take several days to work and does not work everyday for me. But it is so much better than before.

My problem is the opposite, I haven't had a solid/hard BM since surgery. My stool is very soft...I wonder if this is bad... ??

Is that a laxative or a stool softner?

It says its a laxative but I find it just softens the stool. Very gently.

I take a daily stool softener, it's a little red pill. Ask doctor for a prescription. Also I take a daily probiotic. It seemed to help me stay regular and I swear it helped me lose weight. It is pricy but I swear by it. Also, make sure you are drinking your Water. That is very important. I drink cherry pomegranate crystal light. No sodas, just Water. Hope this helps-----Lisa

If you are going to get a script for it ask for liquid. It is available in liquid form. Colace that is. But with that being said, Miralax works just the same. It is not a harsh laxative and it softens stools also and it can be taken up to 7 days if need be. I love it. It is my laxative of choice now for the last 3 years. I ususally use Benefiber also. Both of these can be mixed in your favorite drinks or juices. No, it is not like Metamucil if you ever had it. It disappears, but drink right away.

My doc said to not take anything the first couple months that eventually your body will regulate itself and it seems to be doing so.

Again, everyone is different and my Constipation got so bad that I thought I could have an obstruction which is far more serious. I was bleeding and in horrible pain so taking a laxative was imperative for me. I tried every remedy, drank gallons of Water, cups of Fiber, exercise for an hour daily, suppositories, enemas, you name it!!! Getting something that worked at least most of the time(miralax) was a miracle for me. I began feeling so much better so take whatever you need to, ask your doctor's office for recommendations but do whatever you need to.

Be careful going against your surgeons advise Hun xxxx

Oh no I won't go against them. I always check with the bariatric nurse at my doc's office. I don't want to be causing any problems ya know. Thank you for the concern though that's really nice of you! :D

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
