I am new but am scheduled for Monday, October 8. I am 50 have uncontrolled diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, PTSD, hypothyroidism, and lumbar back pain. I am 5'3" and weigh 235. I was first told get the sleeve but now the (Dr) Dr. Chang says complete Gastrc Bypass. My insurance doesn't pay for this. The sleeve is cheaper but as I understand it with all my health problems and medications the Full Bypass will be best for me.

Please anyone who knows about this fill me in. I am on information overload without answers to the important questions. I need to do what is best for my health but $20,000.00 is So Much!

Thanks.............Tammy

My dr also said gastric bypass because it resolves the diabetes and it did for me. I went home without any medication and my last a1c was 5.8. I feel great and my hbp is controlled without meds too. Go for it. Best thing I have ever done.

I had the lap band placed seven years ago. Losing thirty pounds (and gaining them and some friends back) never did anything for my uncontrolled diabetes. I am seeking approval for a revision from band to rny. Purely for the hope of the diabetes being undercontrol. there are studies and proof that for many the surgery itself changes the diabetes. That is my hope. i am on over 300 units of insulin a day and the insulin causes me swelling and body aches and pains that have caused me to be on medical disability. I wish I had went with the rny to begin with. I just hope and pray insurance will approve this surgery so I can start to live again. I wish you the best and hope you make the right decision for you With your diabetes I hope you go the RNY.

I also had the Lapband. I had it in 2008 and lost about 90 lbs. I gained it back and was never successful again. Always throwing up and never getting good restriction. Had the band out November 2011 and gastric July 2012. Best decision ever. Diabetes gone ! High blood pressure gone. Don't hesitate. Best decision ever!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
