Hi everyone! I am just starting the process, and i am excited to be here. I meet with my surgeon in two weeks for the inital consult. Any idea of what to expect? What are the next steps? My insurance does not require a supervised diet.

Without a supervised diet, (lucky you) I would guess 3 months or so til surgery. Most clinics require nutritionist visits and a psych eval with approval from both. Then submit to Ins for approval. When you get it youll meet with surgeon and schdule a date. You'll need a physical with your reg doc, usually with in the 30days before surgery. So don't schedule it til you have your date. I needed a chest X-ray, EKG, and lab work in that 30 days too. I had to quit smoking and pass a urine test to prove it. Some people have to lose 10% of excess wt before surgery. Some have a liquid diet ranging from 1 day to two weeks. Whatever one they have you do, it's to shrink the fat off your liver before surgery. Good luck! Welcome to the journey of your life!

I am six weeks post op and have lost 55 lbs so far, 24lbs since surgery July 30th.

Thank you so much for your response! That sounds good to me! I was hoping to get in this year, because my oop is met, but that could be tricky.

Congratulations on your loss! You have done an amazing job!

Katiebug12, I have an important tip for you regarding the insurance OOP. I always assumed that mine was based on a calendar year. Didn't find out until surgery time that it is based on the the policy anniversary date. Yours might be different, but it's worth checking out so you don't have any unexpected surprises. It's fortunate in my situation that it didn't make a monetary difference for me; however, I did learn that my husband had surgery on the LAST day of the "policy" year. Uggh! Had I known, we would have changed his surgery to a day or two later! Anyway... check it out...

Thank you MsCook! That is very important. Mine is def a calendar year, but that is a good point. Thankfully, my deduct and oop are low, so even if i dont get in this year it is ok. I have ms so my mri's and ms treatment alone get that met pretty fast. It will probably be met again by feb. lol. :)

I just had my consult w the surgeon and he said since i dont have to do the 6 mo diet either, as soon as i get my nutritionist and psychiatrist appts done they can submit for insurance approval and schedule an appt. He said it just depends on the insurance but approx 1-2 months depending on how quick the ins comes back. Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
