Thinking About Cancelling Surgery

I am scheduled for.surgery on july 2nd a week from monday and am freaking out. I am personally scared Sh!?less. I am not sure why all of a sudden i am worried.of the unknown. Will i make it off the table? Is this the rightthing to do? Is this selfish of.me to put myself first by doing this.surgery insteadof spending the two weeks vacation doing something with my family. Then it kicks in if i want to be around for my family I NEED TO DO THIS. i am 365 pounds and am 35 on the 28thof this month. I know ineed to but is it the right time. I have high blood pressure diabetes and high cholesterol.the preop check up went great they said i have a heartof a bull but i have the courage of the cowardly lion right now. Any thoughrs or input would be appreciated.

  • Hi lotstolose, What you're feeling is pretty normal. I think we all had those feelings. I went back and forth right up to the time they took me into surgery. Even though I was apprehensive, I knew

I think it would be selfish if you didn't do the surgery. You'd rob your family of years of vacations and spending time with them. Look at the life span of a morbidly obese person with all of those health issues. I'm not being judgemental or mean. I was nervous too but this was the best gift I could give myself and my family. I have 4 kids and a loving husband. I've inspired my husband and stepmother to have the surgery and I'm only 2 weeks out. If you need someone to talk to pm me ill give you my number

My surgery isn't till 8/15, but i also wish to inspire my family to do the same :)

Awww congratulations its your turn to shine. I hope you have a speedy recovery

I was so scared too! Never had surgery before and was only in the hospital once to have my daughter ( was scared to get the IV then lol!). My surgery was June 6th and I'm doing great! We're here for you! You CAN do this! Hugs!

I am very proud of you. My surgery was almost a week ago now. I was so scared I wrote "goodbye letters" to my husband and 2 year old daughter. I was certain once they put me to sleep I would never wake up again. I did wake up though, as I am certain that you did. I have maintained a positive outlook through the pain and I know that my health is going to be phenomenol when this is all over and done with. Congratulations on the start of your new life!

congrats!!!! how are u doing? hope uare feeling better. make sure you get up and walk. it will help with back pain after being in OR for that long period of time. i am just about a week and a 1/2 out and i sometimes get scared. but it will get better. once u go for your post op appt. you will be happy to see that you have lost more weight since surgery! i was so excited that my BP went up but DR said it was normal!!!!!!

Omg how strange that must have been too write goodbye letters! I feel like maybe I should too.... I don't know.

I know this might sound strange but I felt so at peace writing my will to my husband and family. I really laid out my life journey and had fun thinking about what silly items to leave each person.

I wrote a will years ago but now I have to make a new one since that will I had 2 more kids.

It wasn't that strange to write the letters but it was very emotional. I didn't bother with a will because everything that I have is under both mine and my husband's name and no one would ever challenge him on anything. Our only child is 2 and he would obviously remain her Daddy. The letters were just all my input on things he needed to remember while raising a little girl. They are things I would have said anyway, just spread out over years that I was concerned I wouldn't have. My husband found them and got worried and started researching the things that could go wrong while in surgery and seeing as how I had undergone anesthesia 3 times before in the previous 2 years and never had any issues and weighed more than I did this time for the RNY he relaxed. He didn't criticize me for needing to write them to give myself piece of mind, but he told me that he had faith that I would make it through the surgery and I was so thankful to have him waiting for me in my hospital room when I came out of recovery. If they will give you peace of mind, write them. Just know, it tugs hard on your heart strings. Best of luck in your surgery!

Listen, I was absolutely 100% convinced I was going to die on the table. What got me through was knowing that the way I was living was no way to live at all. Think about all the other insanely more dangerous surgeries there are like open heart surgery and spinal surgery and brain surgery and people live through those, comparatively this is nothing. The mortality rate is very low and the reason they did all the testing is to be sure without a doubt that you'll make it through the surgery. You'll be fine. Also as far as you saying "is this the right time?" Absolutely! The sooner the better. Once you wake up you'll be so happy. Good luck

You know what I did the same thing I wrote a letter to my family . It was so emotional and I cried all the way while writing it but you know what after I did that I had a good feeling and was not scared of the surgery anymore . Got forbid something would have happen and I had not had the chance to say those words to my family.

I'm one week in aftery surgery and all is ok. Still in pain but taking 1 day at a time and I actually rip my note today . Not sure if I will ever tell my family I did that but at least I had done it and felt good
