Am wondering if anyone knows what happens if you lose too much weight during the pre-op stage of this process? I am 37.12 BMI but I must participate in a 3 month physician monitored diet. What if I get below the 35 which is required for the surgery, will this disqualify me for surgery?

I have the same question. I'm right over 40 BMI, with no comorbidities, and I'm wondering whether I can disqualify myself if I lose too much on the supervised diet. Realistically, if I do lose weight, I'll just regain it, but somehow I don't think the insurance company will care about that likelihood. :-/

I think as long the insurance approve it shouldn't matter how much weight you lose during the liquid diet.

They use your first weight don't worry once you're approved they don't deny I called my insurance company and asked

I was told they go by your initial weigh in. So if you weigh in at 220 that is what they look at when going through approvals.

I would try n ask your primary care doc because mine said to come and weigh in once a month for six months and then they put in for approval showing it did not work and surgery was necessary...they have to submit a sheet with all 6 months weights...they use your weight at end of 6 months...whatever u loose after on the pre op diet doesn't count towards approval...at least thats how it was explained to me:-)
