What Peeves you?

Actually a lot of people say on here off of instead of just of or on - as in "I was living off of apples" or "get that off of me". Its just "living on apples" or "get that off me".

I think that's more of a colloquialism though isnt it? Just a version of American English, which after all is different from Australian English, which is different from English English!

People who wait until they're at the Snacks counter at a movie theater before deciding what they want make me insane. We're all waiting and reading the same giant popcorn menu on the wall, but they act like it's a big surprise when they actually get to the counter.

People who say "up" as in I'm going up to California, when they already live in Oregon, for example, drive me nuts too. Look at a map, people. North is Up, South is Down. It's not that complicated.

Okay, I feel better now.

Ah, yeah. He didnt do himself any favours did he?

Actually on celebrities - am I the only person who just seems to take a huge dislike to someone based on absolutely nothing?

I cannont STAND Russell Crowe, Nicole Kidman nor that troll Mischa Barton. She's never done anything to me, but I hate her. My gut clenches everytime I see a picture of her. I hate every little thing about her.

Ok, gotta stop now, someone might have me committed.

LOL I can't stand any of the above listed either! Meryl Streep, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael Douglas and Renee Zellwegger also irritate the hell out of me, and for no good reason. Come to think about it, I could go on with this list....:phanvan

:) Oh, dont worry. As long as you dont have any blue paint, patchwork or mismatched crockery in your house and you dont try to imitate an Aussie accent, you're my friend!

Well, I do have a bedroom which is painted a steel blue. All the furniture (desk, table, chest of drawers) is a rich chocolate brown, so the blue complements the furniture very nicely. My style is somewhere between European contemporary and modern -- no patchwork and no crockery anywhere. However, each room in my house is a different color, and I'm sure that would drive you nuts.

I'm with you on Angelina. She's a total freak, and it irritates the hell out of me that she thinks she knows anything about anything. Movie stars have no sense of reality because they live in a totally fake world. The only subjects they are qualified to speak on are 1) hair styles, 2) cosmetics, 3) fashion, 4) plastic surgery, and 5) drug/alcohol abuse.

The mere sight of Ben Affleck angers me. And Tom Cruise, too. What a freak! Keep you mouth shut, Tom. We're all sick of you.

General online peeves -

When people can't be bothered to spell out the actual word. How r u 2day? It takes less than a second to type all of that out. You can't be bothered to type it out? I probably can't B bothered 2 answer.

On an Atkins board I used to belong to there was a woman who would capitalize every word. When Someone Does That For An Entire Sentence It Makes It A Lot Harder To Read.

I have a neighbor who calls every couple of days, and when I answer the phone, she says "whatcha doin'?"...and lets it hang there, for me to fill in and find conversation material. If I had had any conversation I wanted to share with her, I would have called her---but I end up struggling to find something to say, because I figure she must be lonely to keep doing it. Maybe it is a good thing she does it---I vent a lot!!!

I have no blue in my house, but my SIL HATES my house and insists on telling me so, saying it is hillbilly---like I give a rat's a$$ what she thinks!!! Her's is so cluttered with pictures stuck in the corner of every frame, and cupboard door, and stacks of papers and bills, and a lazy susan in the middle of the table that is nasty----crumbs, and yuck all over it. My house is clean---she just does not like my antique country style---but it pleases me, not her, I live here---and am VERY glad she does not!!!

LOL this thread is somewhere between completely hillarious and down right disturbing.

I don't even want to counter anything anyone said because a fight may break out as a result, however, at the risk of sounding like a complete idiot....what the heck is crockery?

Other pet peeves

People who chew their fingernails and then smell their fingers...*gross*

People who park so close to my vehicle in a parking lot that I would have to be 4 inches wide to get in the drivers side so instead I have to haul my carcass through the passenger side which is no small feat for this 300 pound beauty.

Other shoppers in Walmart who tell MY children not to touch stuff while I'm standing right there....do I need to be holding a sign that says "I'm the parent?"

Those grumpy women who do the taste testing stands in costco and snap at your child that they need a parent with them....when I'm standing right beside them...the hag just didn't look to her left.

Guys at Future Shop who work on Commission and swarm you as soon as you walk in the door...I know they need to make money too but am I the only one bothered by the fact that they all know my husband on a first name basis? lol

Okay I'm going now....this is what happens when I leave my house to go shopping...lol.

Bad parents bother me. I worked as part time nanny for years. I've worked as an aid to austism spectrum kids. I'm trained in screening for possible developmental delays. I've got experience and a lot of opinions on the subject. And I feel that a lot of parents are lazy. That bugs me. When parents drop the ball and are neglectful-- be it in the store or at home, or abusive or all sorts of other things it makes me angry.

It bothers me when people use incorrect word order when talking about themselves and others. For example if someone says "Me and my brother." I hate that. Its "My brother and me" or maybe its "My brother and I". People also tend to use me when they should use I. Ex: "Would you like some gum? No, not me." No! It should be "No, not I." That is just one of my little things.

Smoke. I hate smokers that stand right outside of doorways. Especially if there is more than one of them, forcing me to walk between them to enter or exit a building. I did not ask for the smoke escort.

People who do not queue properly. If I am waiting for a bus and I am the first one there and I have been waiting at the bus stop the whole time, ready to go, I do not see where other people get the notion that they can just go up and push ahead of me and get on first. I feel like I have to elbow them out of the way-- actually I do have to elbow those people out of the way. That I need to do that really annoys me. Whats wrong with them?

The way my husband can be Mr. Mollasses. He doesn't every put anything away. No, instead he puts it on the couch. Like he promised he wouldn't. And then he promised to stop doing it. And then he promised to put it away. Six months ago. And he is going to build this and fix that. He is going to do it right away. Honest. He means it. Then weeks later I will ask where it is... he is going to get on it. Ugh!

By current peeve is about my students. I taught about microscopes this week, and my students are driving me insane. Do I have a big "IGNORE ME" written on my chest? I tell them how to do something and go over it several times. What do I hear? "Ms. Lewis, how do I do this?" Geniouses, I told you that the little aluminum arm that swings out is supposed to hold the slide in place, which means YOU NEED TO MOVE IT IN ORDER TO PUT THE SLIDE IN THE PROPER POSITION. I tell them to always begin looking at their slide with the lowest power lens. They start with the highest power lens and crank it down until it breaks the slide!:):)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
