I... I will admit I am scared. This is my first ever surgery and I don't know how I will bounce back. I have had a bad back for years so I know that pain. Bad period cramps so I know that pain but I am worried about the pain afterword. Reading some of the posts on here with people talking about how painful it is really does scare me. Any advise? Anyone out that that this was your first surgery? I'm 42... Thx

I am 45 and I found this to be fairly easy recovery from surgery. I think child birth was harder for me. I took very few pain meds once home. The hard part is learning how to eat.

i've only had two surgeries, the sleeve and i had a radial shortening on my radius bone in my right arm (they cut out a part of my bone and put a metal plate and seven screws in it to hold it together!). between the two, my arm surgery was WAY more painful than the sleeve. the worst pain, honestly, was the gas pains. and for me there was some nausea right after surgery. but the best way to get rid of the gas pain is to walk, walk, walk! your abdomen will be sore for probably a week or two and the first couple of days i would compare to really bad period cramps or a stomach ache. but it really wasn't that terrible.

This is my first ever as well. Hate not knowing how my body will react to things.

Mine was thurs. 1st day not so bad 2 bday kinda rough. 3rd day to be seen, hang in there guys

Didn't happen. The only pain I had was the first evening in the hospital when it hurt to cough or laugh. I went home after 1 night. Never took the pain meds they gave me. I've had no pain, no nausea, no vomiting, no complications at all! I told my surgeon that if I didn't have 5 funny little marks on my tummy and an inability to eat very much, I might think the surgery never happened.

Despite some of the dramatic stories by others on this site, most sleevers don't actually have any complications or much pain. We just don't post as often.

im in pre op still. I would like feb of 2014. I have a bunch of commitments. So feb works out best. But with my weight loss in pre op it might be sooner. Not sure. I have my sleep study next Friday. All my other test r done.

Agreed. We have had threads in the past about "who didn't have pain or difficulties" and they were overwhelming. Most sail through it like nothing. The first 2-3 days you may feel run down just from the anesthesia. After that things tend to start improving noticeably each day.

I've had hangovers that were worse.

It's been a long time since a hangover. Lol. My dad has had 4 abdominal surgery so he has told me what it was like for him. It's just nice to hear from others!! Thank you all!!

This is my first surgery also..not nervous yet..just trying to get everything together & remember what to drink the day before surgery
