Time off for desk jobs?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, Question for folks who have desk jobs...how much time would you suggest taking off work? My job is not physically demanding at all, but it is mentally demanding (project management at an airline). One huge benefit is that I can work from home. My current plan is to have the surgery on a Wed, return home on Sunday, and then work from home that entire week, and go back into the office on the following Monday. Essentially, a week and a half away from the office. Is this crazy? I'd love feedback!

I work a desk job 100% from home. I teach English Language classes online. I am arranging to take two full weeks off. I am a contracted worker so any time off is unpaid. If I can go back sooner I will but I want to make sure my bases are covered for healing time. My surgery is scheduled for November 19th.

I had surgery on a Tuesday, came home Wednesday and was back to the office on Monday. I had a very smooth recovery and was off the pain meds the day I came home. Everyone is different and responds differently to surgery. I had the same recovery time when I had my gall bladder removed. Only you will know when is best for you.

Good luck!!

Hello fellow telecommuters.

I will have surgery on Thursday and plan on working 1/2 days (from home) each day the following week. My thought is, while I may work more, I'm not under pressure to do so and I want to make sure I take care of me.

I am 12 days post op. I thought I would return to work the following Monday but it hasnt worked out due to a minor open wound complication. I have a desk job. Still hoping to return for at least 1/2 days next week.

Mine is mostly a desk job, surgery on Thursday, felt ready to go back Monday, but took the 1st week off and went back 1/2 days the 2nd week. At home I was on the computer doing my own things and walking starting the Saturday after surgery. Your mileage will vary.

I had surgery on a Monday, did some work from my hospital bed on Tuesday (which I don't advise, I didn't remember much of what I did), went home on Wednesday, worked from home for about 5-8 hours a day Wed, Thurs, Fri, and Saturday, and then pulled a 15 hour day at my desk on Sunday. I was back in my office on Monday morning a week after surgery.

If you can at all avoid working for the first week of surgery, I would go for that option. I was mentally acute by the 3rd day after surgery, but I was completely exhausted and miserable working the week of my surgery, so I don't feel like I helped myself out at all. It is technically possible to begin working a full-time desk job 3 days after surgery, because I did exactly that, it is just a really horrible experience that I never want to repeat again.

I agree with JerseyGirl. Everyone is differnet. I had my surgery last Thursday in Florida and returned to my hotel on Saturday with no need for pain meds. I arrived home (Grand Cayman) last night and I am back to work this morning. I work for one of the largest tour companies on island im the general manager so I understand your concern on being mentally strssed. Im doing ok so far, no pain no discomfort and im still managing to keep sipping on my Protein Shake and Water. Good Luck!! ^_^

I took off 2 weeks. I was tired the first couple of days but I think that was more getting back on a schedule again after being at home 2 weeks.

I had my surgery on a Saturday in Mexico. I came home on Wednesday, was off Thursday and Friday. I worked from home on Monday a full day, and then back to the office on Tuesday. My normal schedule is Tuesdays and Thursdays in the office and the other days working from home. I didn't have any problems. I was tired, but it wasn't awful.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
