4 weeks post op and eating too much!

Basically everything I eat I record it in an app on my phone. For some reason yesterday I just went overboard during dinner. I really was just craving like I was going through compulsive eating again. I really wanted a slice of chocolate cake lol. The first time I had ever craved sweets since surgery. I guess the tortilla shell was satisfying my carb craving. I have pcos and my menstrual usually never comes. But I do get very hormonal with or without the period - bloating' date=' serious cravings. I felt it coming on, but I was suprised that the sleeve didn't stop me in my tracks while I indulged. I worry about this and what this means going forward.[/quote']

Like others have said, the tortillas may just be a slider for you and ground meat probably goes down easily. I wouldn't worry too much about feeling like your sleeve might not be working. Try chicken or beef or a more dense Protein and you'll probably get the restriction your looking for.

I think you are right. I'd probably do better sticking with chicken and fish. I don't feel as guilty.

I am almost 5 months out, and I still have mixed experiences with the amount of food I can eat...sometimes I am surprised at how much quantity-wise I can fit in my stomach (even though I might feel a little uncomfortable after eating)...then other times, I am surprised that I cannot even finish a small portion...hang in there! you will learn as you go--just try not to get discouraged

Different doctors also "size" your stomach differently when they construct the sleeve. My doctor uses a larger "bougie" than some because he finds it to be most effective balance between minimal complications and effective outcomes. So while I can never really eat "large" or even "normal" portions of food, I imagine I can eat more than others less than 2 months out.

But that hasn't stopped the excellent results....

Funny you mention the bougie. I don't know what size he used. I guess it doesn't matter now. I have to give it more time to work. I only lost 22 lbs since 8/20. Feeling like thats miniscule and that I'm doing something wrong.

I think it will work out. However for those of us waiting to be sleeved, 22 lbs. since 8/20 sounds great. That is about 3.5 lbs. a week. I hope I do as well.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with the carbs making you crave MORE carbs and making you hungrier. That definitely happens to me. Some of us are just carb sensitive and eating them makes us want more.

I too average about. 3.2 lbs a week or less. If you're female, older, have thyroid or pcos, have had children, etc., we will lose slower than younger men and women. BUT, that's still 12-14 lbs a month! I would have killed for 12 lbs in 6 months before the surfer, let alone 12 lbs in 6 weeks.

I think that is exactly it. I have learned and I realize how easy it is to go back to old habits. I know now and will be much more careful going forward.

Thanks. At least I know now that I am not causing the weight loss to be so slow. Others seem to lose weight so much faster than me and I am actually working out at the gym which feels as if its not really doing much to speed the process.

Its a psychological thing I'm going through. I tortured myself mentally pre surgery about being fat and now post op about not losing fast enough. Lol maybe in the next few months I'll reach a comfortable place.

Since you are working out at the gym, it helps make sure that more of what you lose is fat, and less is muscle. Someone who is working out can lose a lot more fat and a lot less muscle than someone who is not working out. That's one of the reasons why it's so important to not compare your weight loss to the weight loss of other people. Other people may be losing faster because they are losing muscle faster, but that's not healthy for you.

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
