How long was everyone out of work?

Recommended Posts

Hey I'm just starting my process to get WLS and I also just started a new job and was wondering how long everyone was out of work for?

Since I just started this new job I dont want to be out of work too long I was hoping I could go back after a week or week and a half at the most? My doctor said 2-3 weeks though...did anyone go back to work after a week? Keep in mind I do have an admin assit. position so I am mostly sitting with some walking.

I went to work after a week. I wasn't tired or sluggish.

I'm also a admin/hr assistant but i deal a lot with packages, shipments and mailings. I took a week off of work but ended up needing a few more days. Recovering took longer than i expected. My boss was aware of my surgery and was very understanding about the whole thing. . . Everyones recovery time is different. you might want to play that one by ear. Congrats on your new job and good luck!

I went to work after exactly one week - today is my 2nd day back and while I'm surviving I'm definitely dealing with a sore back and some tiredness. It's manageable, though.

Thank you everyone! It makes me feel a lot better that many of you went back after one week. I am a contractor so I want to make sure I get signed on again next year and dont want to get looked at negatively for missing too many days. I have a 6 year old daughter too so she will keep me moving a little during my week home.

I went back to work in a week, but I had a few short days when I got back due to just being tired. My surgeon wasn't concerned with the healing as much as he was with the drinking and getting Protein in. We tend to forget when we are distracted. So, I promised him I would make sure I did what I was supposed to, and went back to work.

I went back to work after 10 days. I went in for surgery on a Friday and was back at work on Monday - 10 days later. I have a desk job and it wasn't any real problem going back to work. I wore the elastic binder under my shirt everyday to support my new stomach. I've seen some people post that they were back a work after 3 days.

ok wow 3 days is too soon for me! lol but im assuming the elastic binder is probably the same thing they gave me for my stomach after I had a c-section with my daughter.

I did not even tell my work I was having surgery of I would have needed a letter requiring me to take off like 6 weeks with Dr authorization to return...did not want to take that much time off. I was back at my job in 4 days. Sure it was rough at first but you do what you gotta do. 7 months later and they still have no idea. I was only in the hospital for 1 day a Wednesday, took Thurs/Fri off went back on Monday.

6 days for me. Just took it easy. The quicker you act normal, the quicker you'll feel normal! Good luck! You'll do great!

I took off a week, in fact I go back tomorrow. My surgery was 9/24. I will definitely be careful as to what my limitations are in my work place. I feel great, just a little sore so I am ready to return to normal. Good luck to you!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
