Would it be a bad idea if my support person was my 13 yr old son?

Hubby cant go and we have a 2 yr old that he will stay with at home. But he really didn't want me to go alone. We were thinking at least my 13 yr old could be around in case of emergency where he could call or get help if I needed it? Like if I am in the hotel alone and something happens

I would not. I would be so worried about him alone while I was in surgery. And also if you had serious complications it might be really scary for him to be the one there with you...

Can you bring a friend? If you can pay for your sons ticket perhaps you can make that offer to a friend??

I agree... my opinion is that 13 is too young to put that type of responsibility on him. And any complications could be traumatic for him, not knowing quite what to do and being in a foreign country. Even run of the mill issues can be scary -- when I threw up after surgery it scared the crap out of my mom and she's 65. I like laura-ven's suggestion... use the money to buy a friend a ticket to come with you.

I agree. That's a big "burden" to put on a 13 year old.

My mom panicked when I threw up postop even tho it was expected. 13 is too young.

I would go alone before putting that responsibility on my 13 or 15 year old. Too many things would be running through my imagination about what could go wrong that would affect my baby. I agree with all of the above.

No, I only have purchased a ticket for myself right now. Just thought it would be good to have some one who can fetch drinks, etc around the room for me while I am there. I am not really worried about myself but would be nice to have a friendly face while there. He is almost 14 but not sure that I will bring him. Which doctor are you using? Most of them have people that will be around to help you at the hotel. And chances are you will be with other women there getting the same procedure.

There are a awful lot of woman that go alone because the husbands stay home with the kids

I would go alone before I put that kind of responsibility on my 13 year old. I'm sure that the surgeon's office has a reasonable after-care program and someone can be arranged to visit you in the hotel. I really think it's too much for any teenager to handle.

I agree with all of the above. As unappealing as it sounds; do this one on your own. As Laura says, you'll soon make friends whilst you're there and then it won't seem so bad. I wish you the best of luck x

I went alone and I DEFINITELY didn't need a support person. I was happy to be alone! You have to walk, walk, walk anyway so even if it's uncomfortable it's better for you to get up and get what you need. Also, you should have a mexico coordinator there who will look after you a bit and make sure that you get where you are going, etc, also if there is any type of emergency they will also call your loved ones for you. About half the women who were in the hospital with me had traveled alone.

Oh you're golden! They will take care of you.

Really I had mine in the states and I was in the hospital alone ( just had my mom drop me off) hours after surgery my husband, mother and 17 year old daughter came to visit briefly.

I don't know who it was harder for, me or them watching me in pain and getting sick..

I did better alone truthfully it was just a painful time I needed to get through and having someone witness it did not help.

My husband took me to the hospital, they wheeled me back and he went to work. My mom stayed against my wishes and I love her, but I really wanted to be alone after. Hubby visited once on his way home to our kids, which was nice, but unnecessary. I could get my own Water (which I wanted none of) and I spent all my time walking the halls or getting poked by nurses.

You really don't need anyone. Save the money and the stress.
