Not filling full and other probs

Recommended Posts

So I might throw a lot into this forum. Srry. But here we go, I was sleeved September 23rd (5 days post op.) I have this problem where I am never hungry which I know is normal BUT I feel like my stomach is always growling and making weird noises. Whenever I do drink liquids I get this uncomfortable feeling of gas and pressure that goes away after a few seconds. I know I am not getting the amount of Protein or liquids I need. I know a few people who have had this surgery they tell don't drink anything if you're not hungry. But I know I need to drink something. I just want to know does anyone else or has anyone else experienced this, and what are some tips? I am just nervous that I am doing something wrong. Thanks!!

You do have to try to intake as much of your Protein and Water as you. An, really whether you feel hungry or not. Depending on what stage of your diet you're in, that could mean eating 4-5 times a day and drinking all the time in between. Otherwise you're likely to get dehydrated and lose muscle mass instead of fat. I'd suggest set a timer for yourself and eat or drink when it goes off. Good luck!

I was sleeved Sept. 11th... You really need to get at least 64 oz of Fluid in you a day so that you don't dehydrate... It sounded really daunting to me at first too but if you constantly sip, before you know it - you will be done... Also the gurgling for the entire first 7-10 days is probably the fluids the pump into you as well as the gas they fill your stomach with... They told me that it's good to hear the rumbling in the hospital because it means things are working... I had horrible gas pains the first day home from the hospital... My doc recommended GasX and it worked... I take two every time I eat and have had little issue with gas...

you won't get a leak from drinking liquids.

I used to fill a 32 oz bottle with something good to drink and sip at it all day, and try to finish it by 2-3 pm. Then I'd fill the bottle again and start over.

I currently eat at 7 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 4 pm and 6 pm. It just seems to work with my work schedule. Find something that works for you, about 3-4 hours apart and just eat/drink a little Protein when the timer goes off.

Rest of the time just sip, sip, sip

Thanks. I will keep working on it. I was pumped full of fluids while I was in the hospital. They took me off the liquids Wednesday (the day I was discharged.) I meet with my Doc Friday the 4th, I will also tell him what's been happening. Thanks again for help! :)

Thanks!! I am in the "clear liquid" stage. I can only do broth, tea and crystal light. I am trying it's just hard when I don't want to drink or feel the need to drink anything. Which I know is something I HAVE to fix. Hahaha!

Yeah it's hard at that stage isn't it? I used to feel like an elephant was sitting in my chest every time I drank! It will ease up soon.

One thing I've learned in my journey... why do we associate grumbling of our tummies with hunger? Guess what? That can just be gas and we've assumed that it's hunger. I challenge you to stop and really consider what it feels like to be hungry. Like really hungry. It's not that your tummy makes noises... it's more of an empty feeling, you might get a headache if you go too long w/o food (although post op, this never happens to me anymore). For those of you that are so recently out of surgery, you are going to learn a lot of things about your body and how it changes. I believe in going to support groups and learning everything you can... which thankfully where I live, we have several options. Whenever you are so new out of surgery though, my dr. said to make sure you get x ounces in x minutes (I think it was 4 ounces every 15 minutes) and he suggested using a timer. I have an app on my phone to time things.. or I use an egg timer at home. Hope that might help!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
