According to the charts, I should weigh 107 lbs for my height & body frame. but i think 107 is too small. My current weight is 129 & I wouldn't be upset if I don't lose another pound as long as my previous medical conditions remain nonexistent. But doctor expects I'll lose another 10 at 1 yr post op. Overall I'm pleased.

Wow 107 lbs it just sounds small doesn't ? How tall are you? As long as your healthy I think you should be ok. I just want to be at a comfortable weight that I don't have to worry about all the numbers , in fact when I reach goal I may just ditch the scales.< /p>

I'm 5 9 and I weighed 316 so if I can actually make it 200 lbs (I know I will) that would just be awesome, and if I like the way I look I may just maintain that weight or at least try. Good luck with your insurance approval.

I'm 5'3" and my goal is 155, which is what I weighed when I got married. I'm 2 lbs away! But on the BMI chart, it is 140 to be under 25, so we shall see as I'm only 4 mo. post op. I already feel too baggy in my skin.

At 6 feet, my goal was 200, but I blew right past that, so, I set 190 as my goal. Well, that came and went and I just decided not to have a goal. My body would find it's "Happy Weight". Well, I got down to 175, then 170 and then after a life event, I saw 159 on the scale. Eeesh! I was too skinny and was looking gaunt. I increased my calories and now bounce between 175 and 185, which I am happy with.

Long story longer ... I think we can get to whatever weight our bodies are happy with as long as we follow the guidelines. If you get to 200 and are happy with that, start going into maintenance mode by adjusting your eating habits. If you still have that spare tire as I did, keep following the guidelines strictly and you will continue to lose.

I'm 5'9" as well and when I started at 321, I thought it was a pipe dream to get under 200. Once I reached that goal, I thought maybe I could get to a BMI of 24 for ONCE in my life, which would be 168 pounds but I really didn't believe I could make it. Once I went under 190, I knew I could make my goal so I am headed there but I don't care how quickly. I am in a size 10 jeans for the first time ever and I love the way I feel and look so if I don't lose any more, I will be fine but I am going to shoot for that goal. I think it is a very personal thing and you need to shoot for what feels good for you. It also may change when you get closer! The greatest thing about this is it is YOUR journey, not anyone elses and we are all individuals! Good luck on whatever goal you set! :D

I feel the same way as you did before you reached your goals. I can't see myself reaching that goal to be 180 yet. I'm doing my best to stay active and keep myself busy to keep from gaining weight but old injuries are starting to ache and I do feel like at times I'm in pain. I'm not sure what my future weight will end up at but I'm pushing for 200 right now. Hopefully I will reach that goal in the next 4 months and then aim for 185. Thanks.

Thanks, did you work out a lot during your periods of rapid weight loss. I do a lot of walking right now but I'm trying to get back in the gym when I can afford to do so.

Thanks, did you work out a lot during your periods of rapid weight loss. I do a lot of walking right now but I'm trying to get back in the gym when I can afford to do so.

I took up walking, which turned into a few shuffles, then a light jog and eventually resembled something called running. Actually did several races 5K to 15K and even won my age division in several. Unknown to me, there was an athlete trapped under all that fat.

Like you, I started walking a lot. I then decided to jog between two telephone poles, then walk to the next one. Then, ran two poles, walked one. Ran three, walked on. 2 months later, I was able to run a mile before needing to walk. 6 months post, I ran my first 5K. Never looked back until a blown 4/5 disc sidelined me. I'm just now getting back into the game.

I did a lot of classes at the gym: spinning, HIIT, abs, but running was my mainstay. I got a heart rate monitor so I would work out to my level of fitness instead of exercising for a certain period of time or running a certain distance. I found as I continued to exercise, my endurance and abilities increased, so, if I ran two miles, I soon was not putting in the effort I had to even a week earlier. So, with the heart rate monitor, I would keep my heart rate between 145 and 155 on daily runs. During races, I would keep it between 165 and 175. Doing this, I knew I was always putting in a good effort, even if I only had time to run a short distance.

I was hyper-focused on my nutrition, too, feeding my body what it needed to maintain my exercise.

Thanks, I had knee surgery back in 2008 and I don't tend to run anymore but I do miss that feeling of being able to. Sounds like you have had a good time running.

I'm 5'11 and weighed 258 when I started the pre-opp diet. When I graduated high school, I weighed 180 and when I graduated college, I weighed 200. For my goal weight, I'd like to be somewhere in between. BTW, I was sleeved yesterday!

I am 5'11" and my body seems content with weight between 172 and 178. I eat a fair amount of calories (2000-2200) to support daily exercise (no starving here). I try and balance out carbs with Protein in a 2-1 ratio for 2 out of 7-8 meals during the day. The rest of the calories are a balance of protein and veggies. I have maintained this range from about 6 months ago. My original goal was slightly higher at 180 and achieved February 2013. I started the WLS journey at 360 back in may 2012 (surgery in July 2012 at 335). Try and find a maintenance weight that your body is "happy" with and where you can easily maintain day in and day out. I would say 180 is a good weight to aim for considering the average guy height of 5'10. It may be higher on bmi chart, but is a good solid weight that supports a good muscle layer (not huge, but decent and functional). 185 -190 sounds good for you since you are a little taller then average 5'10" height, average bone frame size.

I'm 6'1". I weighed in at 293.6 on Oct. 1st when I started the preop diet. When I went to my check-up on Dec 3rd, I was down to 233.0 lbs. Losing 60 lbs in 2 months has me rethinking my goals. Originally, I just wanted to be under 200 again. Now, my goal is to get to 185 but NOT to go below 180. I'm a broad guy. Big shoulders. Big hands and feet. Big head, lol. I've been below 185 at this height before (way back when I was in high school) and I look weird if I get too skinny. Like a bobble head, lol. At the rate I'm losing, I'm sort of scared that I'll get too low on the scale, but I have to say I'm thrilled with the progress so far.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
