March 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Well, its 6 days post op and I am back to work today. I was gone for 1 week and had expected to come back to a mess, but the people I work with pulled together and kept everything up for me. I still have the head cold that I got the day after surgery with has me living in a fog. I think I am about 85-90% better from the surgery, but with a cold and my period it is hard to tell.

I still have 8 days (including today) of Clear liquids. Then on to full liquids for two weeks. I can't wait!!! I canned some navy bean Soup and some split pea Soup before surgery and can't wait to have it even if I have to blend it. I don't think I am hungery but I would love to try that new sandwitch from Arbys that I keep seeing on the T.V.. I also found that while my family is eating, I go for a walk. This way I don't see it, or almost smell it (stuffy nose).

The kitchen is almost done. My DH took all of yesterday just to cut the opening for the kitchen sink in the new counter top. I am glad he was very careful, but I think he went a little overboard. Tonight he is going to attach the counter tops to the cabinets and then hook up the sink. I can't wait to have my kitchen back. I do feel guilty because I havn't be able to help but he has been great telling me that there isn't anything I could be helping with at this point. Man I love him.

Well I think I've reached my breaking point with this stupid liquid diet. I just can't stand just having broth and Jello and clear stuff. I want something SUBSTANTIVE in my stomach. I'd kill for an egg - and I want to make scrambled eggs with skim milk so badly, but my husband is such a stickler for the 2 week diet. I'm sitting here crying because I can't eat what I really want. Doesn't help that I dreamed of eating a bacon egg and cheese biscuit from McDonalds. And of eating home fries from my favorite diner. I would kill for some stir fried veggies right now - which is funny because I don't usually like veggies. I just want something DIFFERENT. If they want me tdrink milk then they are going to have to let me put some chocolate in it, because I can't stomach plain milk.

*sigh* Just feeling sorry for myself *lol*

I've been keeping to a 4-6 hr regime for the pain meds. The new pain I'm having is just intolerable though. Even with the pain meds I still feel it. However the doc on call said it is normal and to just increase the pain meds if I need to, but then I'm worried about running out of the pills *lol*

So I'm getting banded on Friday and I've just been thinking about random things constantly. One thing that's been on my mind is fills. I understand that saline is put into the "intertube" to constrict the stomach and create the pouch. What I don't understand is why you would need to continue getting fills. Does the saline evaporate (can't figure out where that would go) or leak out or does the stomach stretch and so more constriction is needed thus more saline. If the case is that there is a need for more saline, won't you eventually reach a point that your bands intertube just can't hold anymore?

Just random thoughts while I wait for Friday to get here. :-)

RE: SOUTH BEACH FROZEN MEALS::::::

I know we are suppose to eat higher protien, and I like to (when I am "in control") eat preportioned frozen lunches.

I got a south beach diet lunch and Protein is 10% or more of overall calories ~ which is really high for the frozen healthy Entrees. So my calories would be 290 and the Protein is 30!!!!

And the taste is phenominal...

Call your physician assistant for your surgeon and ask if you can have some thinned out cream of wheat or some yogurt. You are 5 days out and I am betting they may say yes, it is worth a try, tell them how you are feeling and the mental crisis you are in. Seriously call them, all they can say is NO, but they will probably say yes.

From my understanding, there is fat around all of your organs, the stomach included. As you lose weight, the fat disappears as well. Therefore, the stomach becomes smaller. The fills are needed to keep the restriction around the stomach tight as the stomach gets smaller. However, I have only recently been banded so, I don't have any experience in this. It is just what I have read on here.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
