I have a few meds I take regularly. am I going to be able to take them normally after surgery or do I have to crush them?

Your Dr will tell you what meds you should continue, or discontinue for a few days. Mine said if they are smaller than a pinky nail you could swallow them. But I chose to crush mine just to be safe. I crushed them and put in a spoonful of pudding or yogurt.

Be sure to ask your surgeon-- this is very important as not all medications can be crushed. :)

My doc's rule is that if the pill is the size of an "M&M" or smaller, it's ok to take. If not, I break it in half unless it's a delayed-release, in which case I switched to a different form so I could get it down.

All of my docs [cardiologist, pcp, and Fibro/pain] were able to prescribe liquid versions of all my pre-op meds. Ask your doctor if your meds come in liquid form.

You really need to discuss this with your surgeon. I was crushing/splitting mine for a few days before i realized not all meds are meant to be crushed or split. Some are time-release and need to stay intact in order to release into your system properly.

It depends on what your doctor recommends. My blood pressure medicine was changed. My metformin for my diabetes and cholesterol meds we're stopped. My old blood pressure meds had my bp too low, however the new meds have the lower number too high. I am sure my dr. will figure it out. I will see the doctor next week, however the bariatric care coordinator has been very helpful with my questions and concerns.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
