First couple days post op diet

Recommended Posts

I'm 7 weeks Til surgery. Self pay/ Mexico so I don't have a Nut or Doc to talk to. They sent me an e- file on suggested post op diet , but it's so vague.

I hear people talking about chicken broth and Popsicles during the first couple days post op. I really don't like most chicken broths... Can I just drink Isopure?

Does that count towards Water intake? Or do I need to drink 48 -64 oz Water in addition to Isopure?

My surgeon's rule is that you should end up with at least 64 ounces of Fluid each day, but it doesn't matter whether that is from Water, broth, Protein Shakes, tea, juice, skim milk, etc. As long as it isn't alcohol, soda, or something with a high carb count (we are restricted to 60 carbs per day).

I agree with that you can count almost any liquid towardsyour daily Fluid numbers but would add that I was told not to count coffee or tea in that count as they are natural diaretics and actually hurt your hydration not help it. For that matter I personally increased my daily Water goal to 128 oz in order to make up for the amount of coffeei drink mousy days. Good luck.

Also you can use other broths if you like something else better then chicken.< /p>

The idea that caffeine will dehydrate you is a myth:

Caffeine does have a slight diuretic effect -- as does Water. In fact they have almost identical diuretic effects, you'll retain almost exactly the same amount of Fluid after drinking a cup of coffee as you will with water.

Very interesting I guess my reasoning for increasing my Fluid intake weren't necessary after all, lol. But I can't argue with the results so I will continue to drink the amount I do.

I'm day 6 post op. Self-pay Mexico, Dr. Garcia.

Just expect to not get any liquids down right after surgery, maybe your experience will be different but myself along with quite a few others stated that it is next to impossible, painful, constant burping when sipping etc. 64 oz of liquids in general, not just water. The more water, the better of course. I have been and still am struggling getting the amount of liquids and water I need! Don't be too worried, it will work out.

The post op plane seems detailed, but I found myself having a million questions. Email and asking when you're there are the best, they'll promptly respond! :)

Isopure is a good option, if you can stand it post-op. I thought all the flavors minus apple melon were so yucky! Water it down 60/40 or 50/50!

Chicken broths... add pepper. The stuff at the Marriott (if that is where you're staying) is very good! Try other broths (mushroom, veggie, miso, etc) if you dislike chix.

My instructions are to get 64oz in a day, anything you drink. They want 32 oz to be from Water. The other 32 can be from crystal light, Powerade zero, gatorade zero, Vitamin water zero. I can have broth, sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles. This is what I'm on for the first two weeks post op.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
