Finally got to come home today. I was supossed to be at the hospital at 11 on Monday, but Mary from Transformations called me a little after 8 wanting to know if I could get to the hospital ASAP. She said Dr. Carroll wanted to get started early that day. As soon as I got to the hospital, they were on it. I got dressed quickly and was moved to the holding area within an hour. They gave me some medicine and told me I wouldn't remember much after that, and I don't. I woke up in recovery very nauseated and in a lot of pain. They gave me phenegrin and diladid right away and I started feeling better. The leak test was absolutely horrible. My suggestion is to get pain meds and nausea meds every time you are allowed. Don't wait until it starts to hurt. I had no idea it would be this painful. I hope I will be able to get some sleep tonight with as little pain as possible. The liquid Loracet doesn't seem to ease the pain at all.

Jackie glad u r home. Why did you have to stay 2 days instead of just one? I had my phase 2 tests today. Somehow I think that will be the easiest part of all of this. Hope you are able to get some rest tonight! Take care!

Jackie, did you like Dr. Carroll? I have not actually met him yet. I like all the other staff at transformations.

I could have gone home Tuesday, but I just wasn't ready. I was too nauseated and in too much pain. I was scared to try and make it on my own with just the liquid Loracet, like I said it does nothing for the pain!

I haven't posted anything since they postponed my surgery so here's an update.

I weighed in Monday 9/30 and I'm down 21 pounds! So I still have a few more to go before I get a date. I meet with NUT and dr cummins nnp next Wednesday 10/9 to see where I am in this extended process. They still think I can get a date for this year judging by my progress. But I'm not getting my hopes up until papers are signed and money is paid. Fool me once, won't fool me twice. I've come to terms that it may be January. Congrats to those who've had surgery in that last few days.

Amanda

This year just keeps getting better and better for me pffft! The out of pocket expense for state employees will be increasing drastically as of January first. What is currently $2500 will change to a whooping $6350!!!! That doesn't include your dr deposit and hospital fees. There is NO way I'm paying that. So after signing my paperwork for 2014 I immediately scheduled for my surgery consult with dr Vick. Because I am a Umc employee it appears (from the benefit paperwork) I will not have to pay anything but my deductible. My of pocket expenses will be waived also I will get to use my 20% employee discount. My new consult date is November 13th with dr Vick. I will continue seeing Cindy cruise until everything has been transferred to Umc or dr cummins agrees for a December date.

Yes, I got the notice about our out-of-pocket increasing in 2014 too. What a crock of bull !! If it doesn't happen for me November 4th, It's not gonna happen at all. Glad you've found an alternative route and praying that it works out for you!!!!!

Wow! That out of pocket going up so much is ridiculous! I'm glad I got mine done now. I also had to stay in the hospital 2 days and they didn't let me leave until late on Wednesday because I was so nauseated and weak.

I'm upset because I'm not losing weight. I've been the same weight all week long. It seems like most people have weight falling off of them this early in the game.

Sucks for those who don't have this as a back up. If waiting means ill save 4-5,000 then I'm glad to wait

Hello! I am also a State employee. I had my WLS in South Ms on 9/24. I guess I've been recovering and hadn't gotten the deductible notice. Geez

Dr Avara did my sleeve avid I did really well. The only nausea was after I walked. My problem was the IV machine- I was the first, yes the first, patient in the hospital with their new all-in-one machine so every medical person seemed to come in the room to check it out and discuss. It had four separate alarms that were factory set very loud. The dang thing went off all night long. I got so tired of it that I'd just push the button and when they answered I held it up to the machine. When I needed to us the bathroom they had to disconnect the oxygen and this new machine allows 2 minutes before it resets everything--ain't gonna happen! They didn't have IV poles that could hold the weight of the new machine so pushing it around required a staff member- at first I was agrevated but I got to talk to a lot of nice people who walked with me!

One thing I found cool was my nurse also had the sleeve and she talked to me! I couldn't have prayed for a better caregiver. She understood me and knew what to say.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
