Doc advising Gastric Bypasd vs sleeve... Anyone have that happen?

Recommended Posts

I had the band to sleeve revision and wish my doctor had advised me otherwise! I had surgery 4/22 and have only lost 20 pounds. To me, this is beyond being a slow loser. I'm so disappointed with MY sleeve and wish I had bypass...oh well, life goes on.

Wow, that is a slow loss. How many calories are you consuming a day? Are you using My Fitness Pal or another application to track all of your intake (food, Water, Vitamins etc)? Has your surgeon said anything about your weight loss in your follow up appointments? How is your post-op blood work looking? Have your thyroid levels been checked? I'm sure you must be so frustrated with such a small weight change. I hope you figure out why your body is so atypical soon!

I'm a super slow loser also, sleeved 4/29 and have lost about 27 lbs. but I am down 27 lbs! I lose about a pound or so a week. So at this rate it will take another year, but I'm ok with that. Of course I wish I had woken up thin, but oh well. I always knew I didn't eat a lot, and this proves it. I average between 8-1000 a day. FWIW I now someone that had bypass within the last 18 months, and I noticed the other day it seems like her weight is coming back. We will get there. Have you tried the plateau buster diet?

I average 800-900 calories, 100 oz Fluid, 80 gm Protein and 30-60 mins/4 days of exercise. Vit D is the only lab that was off...

What does your surgeon say? I still would wonder if your thyroid might be low causing a slower than normal metabolism. Have you tried to up your calorie count? If you are avoiding carbs my nutritionist suggested using Peanut Butter to increase my calories when I was having vertigo issues from too low calories. Otherwise I have been using some simple carbs to help up my calorie count to where I can function.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
